First Annual Fire Department Report Shows Record Alarms

Langdon's report covers the year ending April 31. it records 119 alarms with 15 fires started by children at play. Estimated property loss rose to 274 835.25 while insured value stood at 663 677. Recommendations include new steamers, a 15 foot aerial ladder, two additional hose wagons, 2,000 feet more hose, and six new firefighters.

Fraternal Order of Eagles Joliet Birthday Celebration Postponed

The Joliet lodge of the Fraternal Order of Eagles marks its May 17 birthday with a Monday night banquet and Armory Hall entertainment. Because May 17 falls on Sunday celebrations are postponed one day with delegations from Aurora Elgin Chicago Heights Ottawa Wilmington Morris and Streator joining the royal Aerie. Five year old Eben Grundy, son of Elmer Grundy, narrowly escaped death after falling ten feet from a window while leaning in a nursery at his Glenwood Avenue home. Neighbor witnesses say he was unconscious but survived with only light injuries after a physician examined him. Aged Father Seeks Son Lost Sixteen Years

John Milliken of 600 East Alleghany asks The Republican to help locate his son John H Ammer Smith Milliken who vanished from Philadelphia sixteen years ago. Young Woman Dead Sues Phone Co for Damages

Dr. V. J. Cohendar administrator of Flor ence Jenks estate sues Interstate Telephone and Telegraph Co for damages up to 16000 after Miss Jenks was shocked while answering a phone in Dr Charles H. Ketles office causing collapse and later paralysis leading to death. The suit cites wiring or power issues and names Jay C. Jenks of 310 Town Avenue as next of kin.

New Railroad Co Floats Bond Issue

The Chicago Joliet and Kansas City Railway Company, an Illinois corporation, has given Carnegie Trust Company of New York as trustee a first mortgage on its property to secure 15 million dollars of 5 percent gold construction bonds payable March 1, 1938. The company, recently organized, will form another connecting link between Chicago and Kansas City touching here.

Prisoners to Plead Tomorrow in Circuit Court

Indicted by the May grand jury will be arraigned before Judge Dibell in the Circuit court tomorrow morning. Judge Dibell returned this afternoon from Ottawa where he has been serving as an Appellate court justice and proceedings in the Circuit court were resumed.

Street Department Rushes to Chicago for Asphalt Tools

The street department ordered asphalt tools in a rush to Chicago to repair Jefferson street where a ten year guarantee has expired. Cutters tampers smoothers rakes and a fire wagon were ordered at a cost of 200 dollars funded by an appropriation in the ape notes.
