Fireman John Muir of the Elgin Joliet & Fast freight line was injured Sunday when his engine struck a car in Sterling Avenue. He suffered a long cut to the leg but received prompt medical care and was sent home, expected to be up in a few days.
A half brother of Mrs. Gunness, famed arch fiend of La Porte Indiana, is thought to be an inmate at Illinois state prison. A circulating report links a man named Eligs Kundlu, jailed for attempting to murder his wife, but detective Captain Martin Murphy doubts it. Another report claims the mysterious burglar from Kane County named Connors is connected to identification efforts.
Mrs. Julia Trafmor, aged 89, who fell and fractured her hip several days ago, was moved to St. Joseph's Hospital yesterday afternoon. Her advanced age leaves her condition very critical. She resided on Elwood Street.
The annual gridiron banquet at the Steel Works club is scheduled for Thursday. Details of location time and program are incomplete in the source.
Superintendent J Stanley Brown posed a test of questions on failures to high school teachers. Results suggest more time for individual instruction while maintaining class instruction. James Radford secretary treasurer of the Illinois United Mine Workers died Saturday night at St John’s hospital Springfield. A Braceville resident for years he worked in local mines and helped lead state union activity. Born in England he immigrated young and rose to senior duties after nine years as assistant secretary treasurer. He underwent major surgery about six weeks ago and did not recover as hoped.
The second operation was performed but failed to recover from the shock leaving Mrs. Jord with five motherless children. The eldest is under ten and the siblings are now doubly orphaned.
Charles Borga of Channahon was seriously injured in a runaway on Railroad Street yesterday afternoon at 3 o clock. A broken trace on a spirited team caused the pole to drop and the wagon to lunge, hurling Borga through the air and leaving him unconscious. He was revived at the Great Western Cereals Co office and sent home after police and a doctor treated him. Two companions were with him as the team was stopped at Channahon.
Work on tearing down the Barrett block at the intersection of Filinton and Chicago streets is nearing completion. The Foster National has not yet announced plans for the new building to be erected there.
Reports say John Kileen assistant superintendent of streets will not be reappointed for the coming year. Henry Ruth is expected to succeed him according to circulating notices.
Alma Hudson a Park Avenue school teacher living at 909 Benton Street is a candidate in the teachers visit to Europe sponsored by the National Civic Federation from September 1908 to March 1909. She is considered to have an excellent chance of securing the trip.
Tooth extractors from Joliet prepare to leave tonight and tomorrow for Springfield for the forty fourth annual session of the two state dental societies. Dr H F Lotz will open with a talk on the local role in the state society and the Will Grundy County Dental society. Attending Joliet dentists include Drs Fintey Duncan J R Fouser S F Wilhelmi H F Lotz L E Spires and Harry Copley.
A cyclone struck western Illinois this afternoon at 2 15 reports say. In Colona near Rock Island one mile of telegraph poles were uprooted and all wire connections broken as NEWS from Chicago details the dangerous storm sweeping the region.

Jenkin Lloyd Jones of Chicago spoke at the Auditorium on Grant the Silent Hero. Bartleson Post of the Grand Army of the Republic attended. He traced Grant from childhood, used autobiography as authority, and contrasted him with Lee at Appomattox. He quoted Blaine and noted Grant’s math aptitude and magnanimity.
The funeral of John Teapot was held at St. Anthony's Church Scott Street at 10 30 AM with Rev Father Tonello officiating Interment followed at St Patrick's Cemetery Six organizations in line with 623 mourners marching Delegations came from Coal City Braidwood Torts Spring Valley Dalzell South Wilmington Diamond and other towns Pall bearers included Frank Spesia Tony Cherugatti Cipriano Garbin Charles Lisdero Vincenzo Morbiducci and Salvatore di Giullo Floral offerings were elaborate.
John Yackovitch a laborer at the Merchant mill was crushed under billets at the Illinois Steel mill on Friday morning. He was taken to St Joseph's hospital where his left leg was amputated. Doctors believe the other limb may be saved despite severe crush injuries. A wagon used to move the heavy billets collapsed causing the accident.
About 250 members of the Knights of Columbus attended a service at St John’s German Catholic Church yesterday. Rev Father Cyriac delivered a sermon urging members to uphold faith and duty in daily life.
