James Wilson bound for the penitentiary leaped from a train at Coache Lemont this morning risking death as authorities pursued him. The incident occurred in Virginia with Wilson described as a captured man and the leap prompted a manhunt by local officers.
James Wilson, convict en route to a penitentiary, leaped from the Red Hammer train at 9:45 AM and escaped until William Hester of Lemont nabbed him near the Chicago Joliet substation. Deputy Davies and others pursued, Wilson was eventually recaptured and jailed in Lemont. The incident caused uproar aboard the train and raised fears of a possible insurrection among the other inmates.
Private services are held in Graceland Chapel at 3 PM for Mrs. Harlow N. Higinbotham who died Friday at Pride's Crossing Massachusetts. The body arrived in Chicago yesterday with family members. Bishop John H. Vincent will officiate. casket to remain in the chapel vault with no pallbearers.
Reports say residents near the cut off in the Kankakee river have used seine nets to catch large numbers of fish. Wardens have been notified and likely action will be taken soon to curb the practice.
A mysterious midnight blaze damaged Paul Ranensky's Meadow avenue general store in Rockdale. The Peoria Star reports Warden E J Murphy of Joliet penitentiary and Sheriff H O Williams joined by C E Snively and Leon McDonald visiting Peoria. They dined at the Country Club and toured the river region as Murphy’s long record in public service sparks speculation he may seek the Republican nomination for governor after Deneen.

Harry Meyers of 202 Campbell Street, a Bahmueler Bakery driver, was hurt in a morning runaway accident near Stone and Hickory streets when a king bolt broke, causing the wagon front to drop and Meyers to be dragged. He sustained a badly wrenched back, multiple cuts, broken ribs and limbs, and was taken to St Joseph’s Hospital with severe back pain.
Victor G Gustafson of 627 Cass street has perfected a flying monoplane and plans an exhibition flight in Joliet before summer. A model has been sent to an eastern factory for construction of a test machine.
Vera Lee receives a verdict sparing her from a harsher sentence while her husband Otto Lund I Strum is killed. The deciding outcome places Fifteen months behind bars as the sentence for the homicide.

New cars arrived over the Alton road from St Louis for Joliet and Southern Traction Company. They will be moved to Plainfield for service preparation and put into use on the Chicago Heights line by week’s end. Each car cost over 8000 dollars. A third car will go directly to Chicago Heights for use on that end of the line.
