George Boucher ten year old son of Michael Boucher a South Chicago blacksmith was injured while playing near a barn track street car on a Saturday night. He fell under a backing car and his left hip was broken with a head and abdominal injuries reported. Nellie Fay jumped from a moving Brooklyn line car injuring her head and face. Both were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Paris reports the chamber of deputies validated Count Boni Castellane's re election after objections by several members. Castellane had been unseated after the initial vote over irregular polling practices.
A wall of water swept the Wheeling creek valley Sunday night flooding ten miles of the district. Houses were inundated but there are no casualties reported.
Col. Rob ert Am son, recently convicted of receiving stolen property tied to the Franklin syndicate, a get rich quick scheme offering 500 percent profit, was sentenced to four years in the penitentiary. A new trial was asked and denied.
The Reliance Constitution and Columbia met in the first of six races to decide which will defend the cup. In light twelve knot winds the fifteen mile course headed eastward and home. Columbia finished first, Reliance second, Constitution third, all within seconds.
Distress in the cotton industry grows as the high cost of cotton forces factories to close. Thousands are unemployed and fears rise that more mills will shut down.
Oyster Bay June 29 The new executive offices were opened for business this morning. Heavy rain kept the president at home while his mail was brought to him.
The Joliet post office moves to the new federal building at Scott and Clinton streets with five new carriers and three clerks expected soon. The transfer ran smoothly, mail delivery continued without interruption, and the structure features Vermont marble, oak, and elaborate plaster work. The building cost about $130,000 and rural delivery will expand to cover all residences and nearby manufacturing plants.
The Santa Fe passenger train No. 5s bound for Chicago derailed after switching into the ditch near Coal City last night. All aboard escaped injury though shaken. several cars sank into mud and two sleepers toppled, blocking the line and forcing rerouting of the 11 pm and 3 am trains over the Alton.
John Mahoney died at his home 1013 Cass street in Joliet Sunday morning at 3 o'clock aged 66. He had been an invalid for years and a Joliet resident for over 25 years with 25 years in local business. He was born in New York June 26 1887 and moved to Will county as an infant. He was survived by his wife six children two brothers Jeremiah and Francis and two sisters Elizabeth Jatons and Eliza Mahoney. Funeral from Cass street home at 9 30 tomorrow with services at St Mary's church and burial at Mt Olivet.
The Scott Street mills of the American Steel and Wire Co dispute Mayor Crolius over the Keserle saloon license. Superintendent Lutz says protest was made to Crolius, who vowed to let the council decide. Mills workers report abuse of officials, tampered wiring, and suspicions grow as city attorneys decline comment.
A Friday evening piano recital by Mrs J Clarence Davidson and Miss Davidson’s pupils delighted attendees at Mrs John Kelly’s home. Performances included Florence Evans Mabel Kirkham Ella Reed and others with vocal numbers Duets and solos by various students plus readings and a Cherry Blossom era program ending with Chopin selections and a solo by Mabel Hungerford.
The Union club plans its annual all day outing at Rock Run park with separate gatherings for ladies and gentlemen. The ladies and friends will depart at 12 30, play whist and arrange lunches, while the gentlemen go at 6 and enjoy supper and dancing to a park orchestra.
In Hamilton Ohio on June 29 the trial of "Strangler" Knapp began after a jury was completed. He has confessed to murdering five women and girls and faces charges for the murder of his third wife.
Covington Kentucky June 29 Mrs El mira Drake charged with murdering her husband by giving him sulphate of zinc began trial this morning She is suspected also of killing her first husband in a separate case
Joliet sent about 400 residents to the switchmen picnic at Santa Fe park yesterday. Including travelers from Coal City and Streator the total crowd reached roughly 600. A special train ran 40 minutes after midnight and back at 8 30. Chicago sent the largest group of 23 coaches. The picnic was a success with no accidents.
Sheriff Ray reports a productive summer trip in northern Wisconsin with Muscalonge, pike, bass, and several large catches. Dr Frederick and wife reel multiple muskeys from ten to eighteen pounds, while Mr Allott of Wilmington lands even larger. A party member catches an eighteen pounder unaided as ten deer are seen on a nearby lake. Weather is pleasant and all are healthy and enjoying the outing.
Representative J. J. Drew has spent time at Braidwood where the Drew company plans to start mining a three foot vein of coal. The shaft nears completion and mining is expected to begin this week for market.
Former mayor P. C. Haley argues for extending the Deep Channel from the dam to the upper basin to attract lake vessels and grain traffic. He cites economic benefits for Joliet, expects support from district officials and mills, and says a regulated, wider channel could connect Joliet to Lake Superior and improve rail and elevator operations.
