Alton Plans Denver Special for Grand Lodge Elks

Arrangements nearly complete for Alton to run special trains to Denver for the grand lodge meeting of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Joliet party joins the service on a limited train leaving Saturday night, July 14 at 10 oclock, with arrival in Denver at 11 am Monday, July 16. Rock Island line supports the plan by routing traffic from Morris and Ottawa to Joliet, while several Illinois towns will join along the route. Passengers are urged to reach Joliet by Saturday afternoon to secure sleeper accommodations, with pickups listed at Dwight, Pontiac, Bloomington, San Jose, Peoria, Springfield, Jacksonville, and more.

Local merchants victimized by check forging scheme

Reports say a gang of forgers passed bogus paper to city merchants, causing losses believed to be large. Paper circulated days ago but details are unclear as police could not be reached. Several merchants allegedly accepted the worthless checks drawn on outside cities.

Ringling's Circus Captures the Town and Sways Crowds

The Ringling show rolls into town with thirty two elephants eleven camels hundreds of horses and numerous cages. A global procession of riders and vehicles dazzles spectators with gold lace and national costumes. Marshall Baldwin Buried in Local Funeral Service

The funeral for the late Marshall Truby Baldwin was held yesterday afternoon at 2 39 from the home of his parents Mr and Mrs H E Baldwin west of Bush Park. C B Jamieson and A H Willard conducted the services with interment in Oak Cemetery.
