Reports say a gang of forgers passed bogus paper to city merchants, causing losses believed to be large. Paper circulated days ago but details are unclear as police could not be reached. Several merchants allegedly accepted the worthless checks drawn on outside cities.
A severe storm hit La Salle Ottawa Morris and Peru with one man killed and several injured. Widespread damage reported as telegraph lines and a coal shaft were wrecked. trains delayed but services resumed after clearing wreckage.
At Cedar Point south of La Miss Clara Schiele married Arthur Knapp in the First German Lutheran church with hundreds present. Rev Richard Schiele, father of the bride, performed the ceremony and the couple will reside with the bride’s parents on North Ottawa street.
The Ringling show rolls into town with thirty two elephants eleven camels hundreds of horses and numerous cages. A global procession of riders and vehicles dazzles spectators with gold lace and national costumes. The elephants push wagons the crowds fill the streets and the afternoon tent is packed for one of the season’s finest displays.

The Forget-Me-Not society held its annual picnic at Electric Park yesterday with a large gathering. Officers elected for the coming year included President Mrs Oliver Funt Vice President Mrs John Jones Secretary Mrs Louis Kronmeyer Assistant Secretary Mrs John Baker and Treasurer Mrs Robert Grant.
The funeral for the late Marshall Truby Baldwin was held yesterday afternoon at 2 39 from the home of his parents Mr and Mrs H E Baldwin west of Bush Park. C B Jamieson and A H Willard conducted the services with interment in Oak Cemetery. Six of the deceased’s boyfriends acted as bearers: Axel With Richard Hyde Harold Wolcott Charles Hyman Raymond Hawk and Kinsey Robins.
Mrs Minnie Webb Castle hosts a pupils recital at the Conservatory of Music Friday evening. Vocal selections featured and Miss Nellie McCroskey will deliver a dramatic reading. All invited.
