A morbid verse describes a sorrowful one horse hearse heading to a churchyard for a pauper. A mad driver sings a dirge while townsfolk stare, noting the pauper is nobody’s possession and mocking imagined ranks even in death.
The Joliet weather page notes a partly cloudy night and a warmer Tuesday. Temperatures ranged up to 70 and down to 64 in the past twenty four hours.

Miss Adelaide Davies, daughter of S M Davies of 212 South Hickory, works as a bookkeeper for A F Cooper. L G Pasold, son of J F Pasold of 300 N Broadway, is a dry goods salesman and publicist. They returned to Chicago and will reside at 207 Western Avenue after a brief lakeside honeymoon.
Judge Garnsey approved a 25 percent dividend for Lockport Bank creditors after a receivership petition by Asa F. Mather. Receiver’s cash assets totaled $22,813.94, with expenses nearly covered. attorney fees proposed at $900 for Benjamin Olin and $300 for Cheadle. Receiver Mather would take 5 percent of funds received. Proceedings adjourned to September with other defendants seeking an immediate trial.
In Joliet, at St Marys church, Rev Father McNamee criticized Catholic youths who attended a Bloomer Girls game at League Park. He described the team and scene and urged support for church over secular sports, warning the city would suffer if miscreants favor such games.
Edmund Bersch former member of the house of delegates pleaded guilty to boodling charges in St Louis after a charge by Attorney Folk. He faces a prison sentence of not less than five years. A stray line of humor follows about a girl and love, not connected to the case.
Two Joliet men, Harry Jacobs and Harry Brooker, were found dead in the Illinois River after rowing downriver last week. One body was recovered at Sugar Island and the other beneath the Big Bridge at Morris.
John Bloom, son of Guy Bloom, left Joliet with Jacobs and Brooker and has not been heard from since leaving last week. His father, T. E. Brooker, collar Collins Street barber, called The Republican office this afternoon reporting the 19 year old's disappearance.
Two men identified as Harry E. Jacobs of Wilson street and Harry Brooker of 606 Water street were found dead in the Morris river near Sugar Island and the main Morris bridge. Authorities confirm identities. Jacobs carried an electrical workers card and a Economy Light badge. Brooker, 23, worked for plumber George Smith. Jacobs left a last pay of 10 dollars. Sheriff Francis and coroner notified. family statements ongoing. The English Evangelical Lutheran church trustees plan to buy a site at Van Buren and Herkimer streets for a new church building.

Geo Hillier a Streator saloonkeeper and brother-in-law of J E Robinson vanished about two weeks ago while fishing near Marseilles. James Price and Thomas Robinson led nine row boats in a river search from Marseilles to Ottawa but found no trace. The party tried crossing a dam repair tramline when Hillier disappeared, and local relatives continue daily searching.
Crews trained on the water ahead of tomorrow's regatta with close expectations. Coach Courtney of Cornell says the Badgers in excellent condition have a good chance. Coach Oden notes only one Wisconsin man has lost weight. Columbia is backed to win, with little Pennsylvania money. Georgetown is expected to challenge.
Ossining June 27 Frank H Burgess was electrocuted at Sing Sing for the murder of Captain G B Townsend aboard a Brooklyn schooner last November. The men quarreled over wages.

A telegram from Tien Tain states the destruction of Russian mines near Kwang Tung is nearing completion. Two thousand mines have been destroyed so far.
Rev. B. I. Ludy of United Evangelical church Joliet will direct singing at a Geneseo Illinois camp meeting in September and October. He travels to Barrington for camp work and will attend the Christian Endeavor convention in Springfield. The Joliet church plans a large Fourth of July picnic with a venue yet to be chosen.
Members of the Order of Railway Conductors held their fourth annual outing, gathering 600 plus from the Elgin Joliet and Eastern system. Fourteen coaches carried the party to Electric Park, Waukegan, with women from the auxiliary running the refreshment car and reporting financial success for a new group.
The coroner's jury in the Slocum case viewed the hull and heard testimony after resuming today. Captain Van Schack was examined among witnesses as the panel aims to finish work tonight with no expectation of additional bodies being found. Mike Saloski watched his 72 year old brother Stasch drown while fishing in a deep canal near Lemont on Saturday. The incident occurred when Stasch leaned over the boat and fell head first into the water. efforts to recover the body continued into the night with no success as of early Sunday.
National bank shuts down by order of the currency authorities as a run on deposits continues. Officials claim the bank has funds to pay all depositors, and the situation remains to be resolved.
