Kiel June 27 The American officers were the kaiser s guests at luncheon on the yacht Meteor today. No formality marked the meal and the kaiser laughed and joked with them throughout the afternoon.
Rome reports Pope Leo XIII continues to have stomach trouble with loss of appetite. Officials attribute fatigue from recent consistory duties and summer heat to his weakness, though his vitality remains evident.

William J Hutchins formerly of Joliet died in St Louis after defending himself during a streetcar assault. He was attacked as two men tried to rob him of a watch. a sandbag struck him and a shove during a curve caused the struggle to spill passengers. Hutchins died at 8:30 pm after being taken to a hospital. He was born Oct 14 1856 near Joliet and previously worked at Bates Machine Co. He left a wife and five children, later remarried, with three sisters named in the obituary.
The Sisters of St Marys Academy commend Emerson pianos used at the Joliet theater for the recent commencement exercises. Three Emerson pianos supplied by Mr Mersinger aided teachers and pupils, praised as reliable fine-toned instruments.
