Police in Logal hunt Tony Deluca, linked to a Chicago case where a 73 year old boy was killed by a shovel strike fracturing skull. Authorities warn the public and request information leading to his capture.
Chicago police search for Tony DeLuca alias Amedia Deluca, a former Joliet resident. Locals say the killer once lived here, accused of fatally striking 14 year old James O Donnell at Halsted and Ohio. DeLuca, a powerful man with musician sons, later moved through La Salle and Peoria before returning to La Salle.
Chicago detectives believe the suspect in the Joliet murder is in hiding in this city. He is about 50, mixed race, gray hair, 175 pounds, last seen without a coat after stealing a Joliot car and fleeing Chicago. Joliet police will conduct a thorough search to capture him.
Joliet ex-mayor and Gary mayoral candidate W C Crolius stepped from a Lake Shore train and met with Gary Democrat chair Hugh Corbett after arriving from New York. A secret two hour conference followed, signaling possible developments in the Gary mayoral race as the faction readies for future moves.
The Will County Teacher Institute will run Monday through Friday at the Roosevelt school building. County superintendent W. H. Nevens leads. instructors include C. W. Weeks from Fremont in music, W. H. Campbell from Chicago in geography, S. L. Heeter from St. Paul in arithmetic and language, and Miss Edna Kieth in primary work. Pianist Gertrude M. Gammon assists, F. M. John McLennan appeared before Magistrate Allen and pleaded not guilty to drunkenly insulting several women on the gown-town streets. He was fined after officers testified to his actions and may leave town on the first freight if freed. Stanley Nealey admitted panhandling and is jailed for 30 days. George Kisk faced charges of drunk, burglary and concealed weapons and was fined 1150 in total. he acknowledged the gun while officers testified to other charges.
Dr H Sehwaster health commissioner voiced outrage over odors from garbage boxes in residence areas and urged strict adherence to city ordinances. He advised tight, leak free containers and occasional lye or lime as disinfectant during hot weather. He stressed proper care will prevent odors and annoyance. Also notes Lemont public school sent 250 children to Dellwood park and the Chicago Knights of Columbus will use the park tomorrow with 1200 members.
Stephen vs Stephen suit for separate maintenance opens a case of note for the new jurist as the first with significance demanding attention.
Judge C B Campbell, presiding in Keaton Paxton, freed Joseph B Klein on the Nelson killing on a Springfield train during race riots. He said the death was accidental and Klein acted as a sentinel, defending him from a harsh sentence. Other court actions include partition suit and maintenance case proceedings.
Wilmington June 25 A coroner's jury believes Timothy Donnelly the lineman who fell from a telephone pole before the First National Bank was overcome by extreme heat. The verdict was open. Donnelly leaves a wife and seven children. Witnesses included John Comiskey a nearby schoolboy and R W Hasin a traveling salesman.
City officials and property owners failed to resolve the Jefferson street sidewalk issue in a recent conference. Owners oppose lowering the two foot high sidewalk, while engineers note no established grade and urge alignment with street grade. the matter heads to the city council for decision as Woodruff building plans stall. Alton management announces pay raise for section men to $1.35 per day starting July 1, restoring the prior wage level.
Viewers at Wunderlich's morgue saw the unidentified man from the Ruby Street canal. Coroner asks Capt. P D O'Brien of Chicago to assist in identifying the deceased. Inquest conducted last evening.
A gas explosion occurred at 8 pm last night at John Rosich's 100 Douglas Street home after his wife used a lighted candle to check a gas odor. Flames blasted from a basement window and caused window damage. both escaped serious injury.
Seven hundred people attended the St Peters German Lutheran church picnic at Thetler's Park. Prizes went to Hertha Smith Emma Vahnke Henry Werner Elmer Brita and Prof M H Doren led the fat man's race. Rev August Schuessler received champagne after a rapid finish. Bowling prizes included Albert Schuessler Edward Miter and Gustav Zitzke.
Daniel H Darling a Joliet educator and Civil War veteran who served as principal and superintendent in Joliet public schools died at his home on Ley Avenue at 12 30 pm after a short illness He was born June 5 1836 in Byville Ohio and served in the Union Army including Gettysburg He is survived by his wife and brother Wyman of South Bend and will be buried with Bartleson Post G A R assisting with the services.
A barn owned by Jerry Kinsella at 709 Western Avenue was damaged by a mysterious fire last night around 6 45. The roof and studs were destroyed before the fire department arrived and efforts to save the structure failed. Chief Langdon found no plausible cause and a premature Fourth of July celebration theory was disproved as no one was near the barn.
Eugene Harris returns from vacation and informs a Republican reporter that he will continue as deputy to Coroner William C. Wunderlich. He will also take charge of a dye house he recently purchased.
The forecast calls for cloudy skies with showers tonight and Saturday. Temperatures will run cooler, bringing a noticeable drop in warmth.
This morning a police court session drew a large turnout with 16 wanderers from the way of the righteous facing Judge Alien. Drunks and disorderlies, wife beaters, fighters, robbers and others filled the lineup as Bridewell keeper Joe Stucky translated prisoner cognomens. In about thirty minutes, all were either returned to the cell house or released.
The Trades and Labor Council will move to larger quarters on North Chicago Street after extensive fitting and use of the third floor of the Abbott building. The new offices will house Union men and improve facilities, with occupancy planned for the near term.
