The fifth annual Joliet Retail Butchers and Grocers picnic drew about 2000 attendees at Rock Run Park four miles south of Joliet. Cool weather didn’t dampen spirits as games, prizes, dancing, and a giant advertising stunt by Jay T. Allen entertained. Prizes went to winners in a series of grocers and butcher contests and races, with notable participants including Orsamus Page and Thomas Bowers.
