A sensational finding during Third ward ballot count revealed crosses in the Republican circle and in front of Crosius' name made with indelible pencil, suggesting fraud by an election-board member. The canvassing board continues with Second and First ward counts amid objections and recount plans.
Patrick Fenton senior member of the Fenton Printing company died this afternoon at his home 804 South Joliet Street after a several months illness. He leaves his mother sister Bridget and brothers John J Michael and Thomas. Born December 1871. Funeral arrangements not yet made. No flowers requested.
Sixth ward Republicans plan to compel Frank Merk to run for alderman in next month’s election. Merk resists campaign duties but supporters cite his strong spring showing and insist he can win the council seat against any opposition.
Miss Katherine Finley daughter of Mr and Mrs C F Finely and 1905 township high school graduate won first prize a gold medal for violin at the Sansone Professional School of Music Chicago. The prize covered three years outside of graduation excellent but handwriting expert opinions in trials remain disputed.
Stevenson camp No. 2892 M. W. of A. won first prize in a national parade drill with 36 teams, earning $450 in gold. They staged an exhibition near Pfister Hotel and lead the parade with the banner First Prize Winners. Officers were reelected and head camp voted to hold triennial conventions.
Governor Deneen convened a conference in the Illinois state house with the state board of prison industries and the superintendents of the state charitable and penal departments to discuss convict labor goods and related maintenance issues. The gathering focused on administration, policy, and potential production outcomes for prison labor programs.
Governor Deneen granted Johann Hoch a reprieve to July 28 to allow his appeal to the Supreme Court. The Illinois Supreme Court issued a supersedeas in the case of Jocko Briggs, condemned for the Chicago killing of Hans Peterson. Judge Wheeler will grant an appeal tonight for Mrs. Mary Rogers, sentenced to die, with Governor Gell to grant another reprieve.
Acting under orders from Chief of Police Emery and Lieut. Connors, the galoon operated by Balon and Triesna at 401 Meeker Avenue was shut down for operating without a license. The arrest followed a complaint by Andrew Treneik claiming the license belonged to him and was wrongly denied. The case, backed by Anheuser Busch, remains before Police Magistrate Allen's court.
The second section of No. 5 westbound wrecked at 3 am near Pinto Colorado. Five coaches detached and heavy loss of life reported. Among the dead is Engineer Schrader of Grand Junction. Many passengers injured a relief train has been sent to the scene.
The event at Electric Park tonight features favorable weather and the Steel Works orchestra providing the music, promising a highly enjoyable affair with attention to every detail for guests.
The body of Alois Ostrogonec, Austrian workman for Lorimer and Gallagher, was found in the Illinois and Michigan canal opposite blast furnace No 3. Two Austrian companions, Anton Krolovic and John Bally, arrested for questioning, are being held as Coroner Noel investigates. Neighbors say Ostrogonec left camp Tuesday night after drinking with the two men.
About 200 attended a Bethany Shrine dance at Electric Park in Plainfield with Holman providing music. Morning IOL Silent Workers circle members joined Shriners and friends for boating and dancing, ending with a box supper. Mrs Pruden of Michigan and Mrs McManus, former members, were guests. Lighted by electricity with modern hotel amenities.

James Modowski a Rock Island laborer injured his left foot this morning when a tie dropped on it. Though not serious, he cannot work and was sent home to 205 State Street in the department buggy for extended layoff.
Twenty lives were lost when the Lake Shore Twentieth Century Limited wrecked near Mentor. The identified dead include Thomas R. Morgan Chicago Ray L. Rogers New York H. H. Wright Chicago J. R.
