Northcott as Senate Hopeful Backed by State Administration

Lieutenant Governor William A. Northcott, head of the Woodmen, may run for United States senator with the state administration behind him. A Springfield meeting discussed the senatorial race with Madden and Dawes opposed, while Yates supporters seek a strong candidate to join with Northcott in shaping the 1903 field.

Will County Teachers Institute Held at Central School

Power change at Illinois Steel Co signals shift to light power

Illinois Steel Co. plans a radical power shift at the Joliet plant by contracting with Light and Power Co. for 60 to 1,000 horsepower with expected growth to 2,000. electric power touted as cheaper with less waste. Light and Power aims to install water-powered generation up to 4,000 horsepower. Also note a June 23 Letter Carriers picnic at Santa Fe park with a 50 cent ticket and special train schedules from Joliet and Lockport.

Rock Run Park Hosts Large Night at Joliet Garrison Event

Joliet Garrison No 112 Knights of the Globe hosted a popular park outing at Rock Run Park. Many picnickers arrived by 7 pm, enjoying the shoot the chutes bowling alley and dancing pavilion with Holmann's orchestra. Return trips began around 11 pm with streetcars carrying attendees home.

Passion Play Draws 300 At Standard Park

A second night crowd of about 300 viewed the Passion Play at Standard Park. Thirty prelim views preceded the feature including trains at speed, farm scenes, a dynamite cruiser in action, shell destruction, and a Paris exposition panorama. The 23 Passion Play views cover from birth to ascension and pleased the audience.

A Joliet man now residing in Fair Oaks California writes to The Joliet Republican editor denying plans to return to Joliet to reopen his old saloon at the Off. He states he has no desire to engage in the saloon business again and asks the correction be published.
