Albro Knowlton left yesterday afternoon to return to his vessel the Birmingham in Philadelphia. He spent eleven days visiting his parents Mr. and Mrs Sheldon D. Knowlton in Channahon and now prepares for a brief cruise along the coast or at sea to test wireless telegraphy equipment.
Mrs. Alice Stewart Rich, 39, wife of Dr Frank D Rich, died today at home after more than two years of tuberculosis. She was born in West Bevere Wisconsin and married August 9 1899. Survived by five sisters and one brother. Funeral will be private Thursday from the Joliet residence with burial in Rose Hill cemetery Chicago.
L W Snyder of Des Moines traveled to Joliet to identify the body of W C Crawford, a Rock Island trainman who died by own action in a Rock Island coach Sunday night. The coroner's inquest followed and the body was sent home for burial. Snyder offered no explanation for the death. Crawford left home about a week earlier and left behind a wife and child in Silvis. Mrs Snyder is Crawford's sister.
Rev C E Hewett of Chicago will feature the Ridgewood Baptist church annual meeting in the church auditorium tomorrow evening. A brief business session will precede remarks by Rev Hewett with reports from officers.
A special train over the Rock Island will convey the remains of the late William Mason to Joliet for burial tomorrow. The body will arrive and be taken to St Mary's for mass.
The county board adjourned after a lively debate over polling location for Joliet’s fourteenth precinct. Trustees rejected moving polls to 523 South Chicago Street the Fanning store and upheld the Murphy livery barn as the polling place by a 26 to 8 vote. They also approved tax refunds for church parsonages and handled routine bills before adjourning to September.
A stranger in Brooklyn Indiana visited the local post office, bought a money order and sent it to himself under a fictitious payee name. When he tried to cash it he could not identify himself and was refused the funds, exposing the ruse.
