Texas Delegation Praised Joliet Deep Water Way Plans

Joliet welcomed a Texas delegation of business leaders and politicians on a field trip to study Illinois industry and the proposed Chicago to Gulf deep waterway. They toured steel mills and canal works, heard Halley and others discuss costs and surveys, and pledged further cooperation to expand trade between Texas, Illinois, and other northern states. The visit highlighted mutual interests in a St Louis Joliet canal connection and a 54 million dollar project.

Merchants Picnic at Rock Run Tomorrow

The Retail Grocers and Butchers Association of this city plans its fifth annual outing at Rock Run Park tomorrow. Guests may reach the park by boat or Rock Island train with others arriving by auto. The program includes sports and dancing with music, contingent on good weather and attendance from across the county.

Jury Panel Selection in Mrs. Wajzynski Case

Court officers selected representative business men for the panel while attorneys carefully weighed the jurors. The lawyers handling the case were Carl Oesterle John J Nicholson William A Burden Elmer E Henry A E Hutchinson and Edgar Hammond. The core question was whether Mrs Wajzynski had money on June 14 when she filed the alleged false schedule.

Lincoln School to Install Gas Engine and Buildings Housing

Joliet school repairs totaling twenty five hundred dollars are approved for this year. Lincoln school will receive a gasoline engine with a building to house it to power pumping, enabling tree planting and grounds improvements with minimal water pumping by hand. Other schools receive cement walks, yard and roofing work, and interior repairs as the board reviews detailed project lists.

Doctor Nash Reunites With Alma Mater After 50 Years

Dr Nash travels to Ann Arbor Michigan to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of his medical degree from the state university. Twenty graduates, now survivors from the class, gather from across the United States to renew ties and share decades of work in reunion talks. Dr Nash plans to return Saturday.

Knights of the Globe Musicale at Castle Hall

The Knights of the Globe present an evening of entertainment at Castle Hall on Thursday the 21st at 8:00. The orchestra provides the program for Sir Knights, their ladies, Eminent Ladies, and escorts. A joint Richards Street and Ottawa Street M. E. church picnic is planned at Electric Park tomorrow with special church cars and park access for children. The Metropolitan Business College will picnic at Electric Park tomorrow, June 21.

Rockdale accident kills 24 year old worker and injures two

A pile of steel rods toppled at the American Steel and Wire Rockdale plant killing Joe Katowski 24 and injuring Teddy Vasilis and Mike Kurachu. The three men were removing rods when the top-heavy pile collapsed, burying Katowski and causing injuries to the others. The workers had been moving from bottom to top as instructed.

Foreigner Killed by Santa Fe Train Near Lockport

A foreigner named Stonich, from South Chicago, was struck and killed by passenger train No. 2 about one mile north of the J trestle between Lockport and the city. His body lay at Adelman’s in Lockport pending an inquest by Deputy Coroner Frank Noel this afternoon.

Reds Entertain Blues at Baptist church banquet

A Sunday school class event at Eastern Avenue Baptist featured red and blue sides in a decorative, competitive banquet. Miss Edna Tompkins welcomed the guests, with responses by Miss Lulu Frobish and remarks from Rev. Geo McGinnis, George Woodman, and Miss Sarah Spahn. A theft scare arose as two items missing. one returned by Mrs. Thomas Hilly, the other found in Aurora.
