Bronze statues proposed to honor Illinois pioneers

During funeral services for Henry K. Stevens at his son Jerome Stevens's West ern avenue home Rev. J A J Whipple urged erecting bronze statues and busts of pioneers in public parks and buildings. Pioneer Mary Melvilly Dies in Minooka at 94

Mrs. Mary Melvilly of Minooka died at her home at 4 AM aged 94 after forty eight years in the town. She leaves a large family including Bridget James Annie Nellie and the late Mrs Joseph Kavanaugh plus thirty grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral from her home Monday at 9:30 AM with services at St Marys church Dresden cemetery burial. Woodmen and friends to meet Robesson hall at 8 PM for homecoming drill arrangements.

Thieves Take Livery Rig From Roek Run Park

A couple of Roek Run park patrons stole a Waters livery rig rented by Mr Nusbaum. Police traced the horse thieves to town and intercepted them on South Desplaines street at 2 am. they abandoned the buggy and escaped. The rig and horse were returned to the owner.

Thousands enjoyed a grand picnic at Rock Run Park with grocers defeating butchers 6 to 1 in a lively ball game. The day featured contests, flawless crowd behavior, and a festive night with dancing amid a joyous community.

Disorderly conduct fines in city court mix of cases

Robert Welch admitted neglect of his wife and three children and was fined 5.25. Peter Peters, 14, Greek hawker, fined 12.25 after a police court exam. Dr W Warner jailed for drunkenness after dislocating a shoulder. Andy Thompson fined 8.50 for intoxication and disorderly conduct. Police monitor street pedlars for licenses.

Funeral of Rev Vibeliu s Held This Afternoon

The funeral of the late Rev John Vibeliu s, pastor of the Swedish Lutheran church, was held at 2 pm from the residence 223 Cashnday avenue to the church with interment in Oakwood. Services at house church and grave were largely in Swedish led by Te y A Odestrom. Clergymen from across the state attended. Floral tributes came from city and abroad. Deacons acted as pallbearers and trustees as flower-bearers. Members of the Tribe of Ben Hur are urged to attend tonight’s meeting bringing at least one membership application.

Second Annual Horse Show a Big Success for Silver Cross

The second annual horse show at Ingalls Park drew about 2000 attendees for Silver Cross hospital benefit. Fashionable crowds viewed thoroughbreds and gowns while a daylong program featured classes for merchants vehicles and fire department entries, with Ward's band providing music.
