John Goodspeed Hosts Saturday Afternoon Party

Master John Goodspeed entertained his young friends Saturday at his home, 311 Fourth Avenue. Soap bubble blowing and rival games entertained the children, followed by refreshments and souvenirs for each guest. Guests included several neighborhood children.

Memorial services honor deceased lodges members

The Odd Fellows and Rebekah sisters held memorial services at their hall and at Oakwood cemetery. Rev J A J Whipple delivered the principal address with other lodge members speaking. Forty seven members who died since the lodges formed were honored with flowers and prayers. Names of deceased from Powhan Lodge and Daughters of Rebekah were listed.

Corner Stone Laying at Holy Cross Church

Yesterday at 4 PM the corner stone of the Holy Cross church at Ross and Elizabeth streets was laid in a ceremony led by Father Angelus with Fathers Columban and McNamee assisting. Father McNamee gave the English sermon on faith and national identity, followed by Father Pawlowski’s Polish sermon. The brick church with stone trim is costing about $18,008. Charles Wallace prepared the plan and Victor Ahlvin is in charge of the oven. Rev. Pawlowski’s parish includes 169 to 170 families.
