Manila June 16 General Macabulus surrendered with eight officers and 121 men at Tarlac after a raid by General Funston. Insurgents Lacuna and others were driven from a ridge near Pa paya with 22 killed. one American dead and one wounded. Also reports arrest of John Bradwell for murder, census extension for Des Moines, a boy crushed in Springfield elevator, and Dr William Harper returning from Europe.
An early 20th century advertising notice extols still waters of life and healthful blood. It claims Hood's Sarsaparilla purifies the water at its source and keeps the system in good order, with testimonial support from a Kansas family.
London reports describe Empress Dowager declaring defiance as Pekin braces under 100,000 imperial troops. Foreign legations are nearly prisoners while gates and walls are heavily fortified. Aimed at keeping foreign forces out, ministers’ demands to open gates go unanswered amid escalating tension.

In St Paul on June 16 the grand lodge of Odd Fellows voted to exclude druggists and hotelkeepers from membership. The grand master previously ruled liquor dealers and hotel staff with bars or liquor sales were ineligible, a decision the judiciary committee contested but the lodge upheld. Also reported from Havana on June 16 a yellow fever outbreak grows to fourteen cases with three deaths at Quemados as troops are stationed there. In Menominee Frank Cooney is held for trial for allegedly setting fire to the Edlitz House.

Other items list Jessie Benton Fremont injured in Los Angeles, Wisconsin divorce suit, a slave born man dieing in Lisbon Oklahoma poorhouse, and various local happenings including a free mail delivery plan for Baraboo Wisconsin.
The World's Temperance congress closed in London with a reception at the Mansion House hosted by the lord mayor. British delegates praised progress in the United States temperance movement, amid national congratulations to U S delegates for their work.
Chicago Board of Trade quotes show Wheat losses and gains across July August futures with mixed corn and oats. live stock receipts and bid ranges quoted for pigs cattle and steers. Butter eggs and poultry prices listed. apples strawberries and potatoes priced. Milwaukee reference notes No. 1 northern wheat firm as of June 13.
