The departed among their fraternal orders were honored yesterday afternoon in somber rites. Members of Knights of Pythias and Odd Fellows gathered to pay tribute to those who have passed, reflecting on loss and camaraderie.
A large crowd attended memorial services for those who crossed the Great Divide at Castle Hall. Past Grand Chancellor James W. Patterson presided as Rev. M L Wickman and Rev. C M Brown spoke on noble memory and enduring vows. Independent Order of Odd Fellows also held a well attended service at their North Chicago hall.
The Board of Supervisors held a regular meeting on June 14 with most chairs filled. Clerk Mottinger announced roll call, bills were referred to committees, and several communications were read. The State Board of Charities invited two representatives to October’s convention. resignation of Assistant Supervisor Joseph Lisdero, now a deputy sheriff, was filed.
Joliet and South Chicago remain tied for first in the Mercantile league after South Chicago lost to Swift & Co while Joliet defeated the Wanderers 14 to 8. McCarthy returned to form with a three-bagger as Brennan eyes a strong finish and Tommie Pothwick signs with the Steel team to bring Kelly back from Notre Dame. Continental Casualty vs Ideal clashes are set for next Saturday at Dellwood.
The post office announces 42 000 commemorative stamps for the Seattle-Yukon-Pacific exposition now in progress in Seattle. The dark red stamp features William H. Seward, secretary of state who negotiated the Alaska purchase from Russia. Stamps are not exclusive and will be given to purchasers in application.
Williams recommended to the Board that the County supply needed emergency tools. The matter was referred. On Thursday afternoon John T Allen will speak to the board about the County Tract System, with representatives from Will County Title and Abstract Company present to hear both sides.
Twenty two students complete the end course at St Patrick’s West Side Parochial School with a ceremony in Marquette Hall on Wednesday evening drawing family and friends.
The St Patrick's and St Mary's pupils perform a day in Flowerland show at Joliet theatre following earlier exercises at Marquette hall. Cast includes Queen of Flowerdom Helen D Arcy and Sunflower Bessie Barrett with senior and junior students in operetta and Delsarte sequences. Diplomas to be conferred at closing.
Two year old Helen Dill, daughter of Mrs. Catherine Dill, fell from a second story window at 640 Cay Street during a visit to J. R. Mercer. She sustained a concussion and is listed in precarious condition with Dr. Beck stating recovery chances are about even.
Children s Day was celebrated across churches with Sunday school programs featuring songs recitations and graduations. St John s Universalist held a June 13 1909 program with Bible gifts presented to three girls and three boys from the primary class.
John Offerman says a youth held him up at gunpoint on Troy Road on April 24, triggering a trial. The report notes the incident and identifies Offerman as the victim.
John Offerman testified he identified Frank Holand as the boy who held him up on April 24 along Troy road. State's Attorney Barr framed the case as straightforward, suggesting insanity could be ruled out and Holland shown as merely vicious. Offerman described the hands on the wheel and the gun being leveled as he was asked where William Anderson lived.
The Weather Bureau ends its three year experiment with simplified spelling. Willis L. Moore leads the reversal to use standard English in forecasts and announcements. No public Washington notice accompanied the change, and officials say it will speed work and reduce neck strain.
Rose L Foster age 24 wife of Thomas Foster died at her home 803 William street yesterday morning after several days illness. Her husband son of John J Foster of Joliet Civil Service Board survives with her parents in Opelousas Louisiana. The remains will be taken to Louisiana for interment.

The Ridgewood W C T will meet at Mrs W D Crandall home on Dickins street Tuesday afternoon. The Young Ladies club Presbyterian church meets next Tuesday at Miss Kittie Finley’s home 307 Row Avenue.
