Dayton Ohio June 1 General Alexander McDowell McCook retired dies here this morning from paralysis according to hospital reports McCook was a veteran of the Civil War and a member of the McCook family noted for military service in the region.
Rome June 12 The interior minister Gippitta resigned his portfolio and the entire cabinet followed in resigning as they say they lacked sufficient support during their navy inquiry in the chamber last Wednesday.

The East Cass street steam roller at the Purelee plant caused a runaway that threw C. E. Woodruff, its general manager, Miss Tilie Vance the bookkeeper, and the driver from the vehicle. Vance was unconscious briefly with bruises and shock. Woodruff and the driver sustained badly bruised but non fatal injuries.
Prison officials searched for a convict who escaped notice yesterday afternoon. Some believe he remains inside the prison while others think he may have escaped over the walls. Investigators continued the search through day and night with details withheld.
President Banks and General Manager R. B. Campbell were re elected yesterday at the directors meeting of the C. L. 8 E and E J E railroads. At the Illinois Steel company board the old officers were also reaffirmed.
A Joliet banquet honored former Fire Marshal Paige with a $1,000 gold testimonial after Gen. Hayes and friends wept openly. Paige struggled to speak, then accepted the tribute as toast after Dr. Milner and Rev. Laing steered the emotional gathering.
Mrs Mary Krieger widow of the late Frank Krieger dropped dead this morning at St Johns German Catholic cemetery while working on her husband’s grave. heart failure is suspected. Police notified she was moved to her home at Summit and Granite streets in a patrol wagon. She was 59 years old.
The Republican advertises a men s suit ticket offering access to any suit in stock regularly priced at $7.80. Purchasers can cut the ticket from the paper and redeem it for a suit.
George Armstrong was taken into custody last night charged with stealing three lawn mowers belonging to D. F. Higgins L. E. Ross and another. His mother hinted others were more guilty and he awaited grand jury action in 300 dollars on each charge.
Dr and Mrs P G Rulen hosted a large bridge party at their home 1014 East Cass Street with about twenty tables in play for points. Mrs Charles M Fish won the first ladies prize with 94 points and Mrs George Ducker the second with 138. Capt John McDonald led the men with 82 points and Col John Lambert earned the second prize. Ed Munroe posted ten long hands as the top man. Prizes were hand painted china and handsome stems. The red and green decor featured vines, car nations, and masses of peonies. Mrs Backus served.

Ex Fire Marshal Paige abandons personal profits from a charity mov ing picture event. Proceeds will go to Guardian Angels and the Swedish Home, two local orphanages, promising strong community patronage and support.
The Joliet high school held its annual commencement with 60 graduates, the largest in the school’s history, and the first class where male and female numbers nearly matched. Supt. Brown praised the class performance and the senior productions, noting rising male graduation rates and a city-wide support for the institution.
