George M. Scholl chosen to succeed Carl A. Groth as Eminent Commander. Many new offices are introduced this year in the Sir Knights Ec oficers Altright group, signaling a refreshed leadership slate.
One hundred seventeen Sir Knights attended the Joliet Commandery No. 4 annual conclave. D L Mateer appointed drill master to organize a drill corps for the year amid a flourishing Commandery in the 1909-1910 term.
The second assessment of benefits in Spring Creek Drainage matter was confirmed this morning. Objectors include J. & E. Rock Island Michigan Toe T White and Lloyd Hud School board and the Rates Co. The hearing on the objections is scheduled for Friday next at o'clock.
Last evening in the auditorium four young women Fannie J. Hutchinson Effie B. Miller Jane A. Pittman and Jessie May Purdy were graduated from Silver Cross hospital. Rev H W Reed delivered the address praising profession and duty while Dr Marion K Bowles was absent. Diplomas were presented by Henry Leach with remarks. Perform your work cheerfully and with a smile the speaker urged as the graduates prepare to serve in nursing.
W. C. Mooney of Joliet won the Calaghan prize of 50 in law books for the best brief on the statement of facts of the Chicago Law School graduation exercises in Chicago last evening. Sixty six graduates wrote briefs on the same statement.
Joliet Crescents meet Lockport Citizens Sunday afternoon at the J field. Bretz and Pleason form the Crescents battery. Both teams are fast and a good game is expected.
Teri State's Attorney prepared to pursue charges while vigorously opposing continuation of the cases against the Crete resident.
The state trials of Ernest W Balgeman face delays as his defense seeks continuances on two indictments for converting village funds and refusing to surrender money. Judge Marshall hears motions while State's Attorney Barr urges trial within the term. Greenwald case also granted a continuance. Gowran seeks term-long delay on assault with deadly weapon charges.
Waterhill advocates of lakes to gulf improvement are not disturbed by the position taken by the board of review of engineer corps.
A long exchange discusses county tract indices and abstracts with Will and Macon counties amid support for a 24 foot lakes to gulf waterway. Letters from John Allen and W A Helman outline proposed public discussion before county boards and a favorable view of tract indices.
C W Marrow of 1101 Youngs Avenue won the valued prize in A Schrefflers piano contest by guessing the exact number of dots in the piano design. Judges included J H Nichols John Henderson Garnsey and Thomas Lyons. The prize drew much local interest.
Agent W. P. Mohr of Michigan Central begins a thirty day vacation tomorrow with Relief Agent A. A. Watson covering his duties in Michigan City. Mohr has a long record of faithful duty, marking his first vacation in twenty two years as he visits several places during the break.
Two days pass with no jury completed in State v Frank Holland alleged boy bandit as jurors are examined. State's Attorney Barr objects to defense questions and Anderson probes jurors about ancestry burglaries and neighborhood ties. The case draws strong local interest while the trial awaits start.
The beminal state convention of the Foresters of America elected officers and chose Centralia as the next convention site. M. J. Donna was re elected Secretary after a close vote while W. E. McCullough installed the officers. Delegates to the Supreme convention include W Hall and M J Donna among others.
City of Joliet undertakes a combined census by five enumerators for the school board. Full population count planned to be completed by July for the board’s first meeting. Picnic season scenes include Berwyn children visiting Dellwood Park and school outings to Electric Park Plainfield with eighth graders present.
The township educational institution saw a large crowd of admiring friends as graduates from HGH School received their diplomas in a ceremonial event.
The Joliet Township High School concluded its commencement with an all packed assembly hall. Seniors in caps and gowns heard essays and orations praised for clarity and insight. Notable pieces included Ethél McCune on The Romance of the Desplaines and Louise Staehle on Little Journey to the Forest of Arden.
