Fred Holbrook a 19 year old Channahon resident died after being run over by a Chicago and Alton train near Millsdale while flagging trains. His funeral is planned in Channahon. The incident occurred as sections crews worked to raise tracks on the Coal City branch. Holbrook had worked with the Alton road crew and was killed instantly. Evidence suggests he slept on the track before the train arrived.
A small library farewell luncheon happened at the city library as Miss Anna Doughty prepared to leave for two months in Madison Wisconsin to attend summer library school. Miss Mabel Davison returned from a library course at the state university and gave a brief speech during commencement week in Champaign.
Seventy two children at St Josephs orphanage in need of larger quarters to care for more. Sisters plan to raise fifteen thousand dollars by various means and begin work when a portion is in hand. Parish priests agreed to spread the appeal from Catholic pulpits on June 19 and form a working committee from each parish to raise funds. The committee will meet at St Francis academy at 2 pm on June 19.
The Grand theater manager Fauble reveals an upcoming program for the week of June 12 featuring Ferguson and Mack the DeMuths the great whirlwind dancers the Tourist Trio Joe Harris Belle Belmont and the Polyscope with train robbery footage and Joliet Fire Department action.

Alvin Brummond 04 scored 84 Arthur Shaw 04 77 Chas Mildred 06 70 and Chas McFadden 04 followed closely. The faculty adjusted scoring credits splitting the year into two semesters awarding ten credits per semester instead of twenty for the year.
Miss Clara Case hosted a dinner at Mrs. Humphrey's home on Manhattan road honoring Miss Ava Burnett whose marriage is announced for Tuesday June 14. Eight guests attended with five courses served under a green and white canopy matching the bride’s colors. Attending were Misses Ava Burnett Florence Burnett Hester Shutts Louise Conklin Margaret Palmer Ada Robson and Mabel Luke.
Miss Elizabeth Larking, formerly of Joliet, will design stained glass for the new Christian church on Union Street. A 2 year Art Institute Chicago graduate, she now works with Hooker & Co, glass specialists and builders materials. Miss Larking is the daughter of Joseph W. Larking and sister to Miss Jennie Larking, a Henderson Avenue school teacher.
Abner McKinley, only brother of the late President, is found dead in his Somerset summer home at 8 AM. Bright's disease is the cause. Born in Canton Ohio he practiced law there until 1887 then moved to New York City joining Union League and Lawyers clubs. He retired quietly the night before, his wife discovering him seated in a chair.
