The forecast calls for a fair night and likely Saturday with warmer temperatures. In Joliet the thermometer recorded a 79 degree high and a 4 degree low in the past 24 hours.
August Herbert a German born immigrant who landed in 1847 and helped found Monee Illinois. He received a 160 acre land warrant after Mexican War service and laid out village lots in 1853. He built the first house, served twenty years as justice of the peace, and died June 7 1904.
Louis Sehring donated eight bound volumes of The Scientific American completing a set from 1888 to 1903. C E Woodruff gave ten volumes of papers and messages of the presidents. The school board presented forty seven pictures of school buildings with mounts. The library board met with Capt Phelps W C Barber John D arcy Sebastian Lagger and Dean Dunne present. After July 1 the library will close at 6 p m.
The Mothers' club of the Sixth ward kindergarten held a farewell reception in the kindergarten room at Eliza Kelly school. Mrs. EB Murphy urged mothers to focus on their children's development and health, stressing fresh air and light to combat disease, as tuberculosis cases were cited in Joliet. The event closed the season with light refreshments after a day praised for its helpful, instructive program.
Miss Neliie McHugh daughter of Felix McHugh of Manhattan and long noted Joliet organist united in marriage with C E Grogan at St Francis church Enid Oklahoma on Wednesday June 1 Rev Depretier officiating Grogan a contractor with ties to Mill in and elsewhere taught school during earlier years details note his teaching stint and local connections.

The Japanese legation reports from Tokio that General Kuroki's detachment occupied Saimachin on June 1 with 3 killed and 24 wounded. The enemy suffered 23 killed, 2 officers and 5 men captured. Kuroki’s forces, co operating with reinforcements at Takushan, occupied Siuren on June 8, driving foes toward Tomucheng and Kaiping. Casualties totaled 3 killed and 30 wounded for our side.
The Russian czar has sent a magnificent solid silver gift to the New York stock exchange to thank them for listening to the recent war loan. The presentation will be made by the Russian consul on Monday. A second dispatch notes Japanese advances around Port Arthur and Chefoo with battles and terrain movements reported from Pangtao to Fenghuangcheng and Takushan in early May.
The Northeastern Republican club plans a ratification meeting at Pow lak's and Jenka's hall on Meeker Avenue tomorrow evening. Speeches are scheduled and a social session will follow the program. President Ferguson and Secretary Holmes urge all members to attend with a friend. meeting opens at 7 30.
President Zina R. Carter of the drainage board warns the sanitary district will lose its water power, with Chicago to gain control of canals. He cites $1.868 million debt, $200k in admin costs, $140k litigation, $115k costs against St Louis, and the need to issue new bonds as tax revenue falls short. He argues 25 000 horsepower should not be given away.
Tomorrow afternoon at Rock Run Park the town grown class of 04 will celebrate four years of high school with a picnic. Eighty four graduates are expected with faculty and class of 05 invited. A post graduate outing is a longtime annual event ending with a picnic supper and evening activities before the group disperses in the coming weeks.
A county judge issued a capias for John Fenolio the saloonkeeper at the corner of Railroad and McDonough streets to answer to a charge of selling liquor to minors. The case stems from the arrest of two Nelson children recently. It was learned the 14 year old girl had frequented Fenolio's saloon for beer and liquor.
At the home of the bride's parents in Elgin last night Wm. L. Kerr of Joliet and Miss Carolyne H. Krammer were united in marriage. The ceremony was by Dr. J. B. Kirtley of the First Baptist church in the presence of many friends. They plan a short wedding journey and will settle on Grover Street in Joliet.
