Diamond Match Plans for Canal Power at Lockport Joliet

Diamond Match Company aims to concentrate Chicago manufacturing along the Big Ditch canal if it can lease water power rights at Lockport and Joliet. Trustees expect formal offers and discuss a 50-year lease with the district owning the plant at lease end, with power estimates from 7 952 to 11 360 horsepower.

Change in Services at First Presbyterian Church

St Paul Wins Bid for Modern Woodmen Biennial Camp

St Paul was chosen as the meeting place for the next biennial head camp of the Modern Woodmen of America, defeating Grand Rapids by 199 to 163 at the Kansas City session. Indianapolis entered the race for 1903. Frank R. Crocker of Iowa won head banker over H. E. Errett of Missouri, 215 to 107. The Southwest Missouri Log Rolling Association will meet in Sedalia on August 8, 1900, with F. M. McDavid of Springfield elected president.

Off for Lake Zurich with Joliet guests aboard special train

Col. John Lambert hosts about two hundred Joliet friends at Lake Zurich. A special Elgin Joliet and Eastern train left Clinton Street depot at 8 AM and will return to Joliet around 9 PM. The party travels in engine baggage car and four coaches and enjoys a day of fishing, heating and similar recreation in a shady grove.

Joliet High School Field Day At Standard Park

Joliet High School Athletic Association holds its annual field day at Standard Park next Monday June 12 beginning at 10 am. Sixteen events include sprinting jumping vaulting bicycle riding and other feats of skill and strength with contestants listed by number. W D Ryan reports from Springfield that about 2 500 miners are on strike in the state with 1 420 on relief totaling 4 260 dollars weekly, as Hallidayboro and Sparta join the list. Carlinville is newly struck, Pana quiet, and most mines run two to two and a half days weekly. full operation hoped within six weeks.
