Property owners favor strengthening city protection against fire. Officials push measures to add funding and authority to respond to blazes. Community groups argue for faster response times and upgraded equipment.
At a city council meeting a large group of property owners debated funding a high pressure water system. Supporters from the business district argued for improved protection and cost savings, while many residential owners resisted paying a large share of the 85 percent cost.
Dellwood Park altercation leads to police action as John Rowe of Lockport allegedly slugged George Peterson of Joliet with a slug shot. Peterson charges Rowe with unprovoked attack. Joliet Township High School student involved. Justice Goodspeed issues warrant for Rowe’s arrest.
Lovina Luther appeals probate court settlement of Hortense Teeples estate. Judge Hooper heard the matter this afternoon as relatives object to the public administrator appointment. The court previously appointed John Savage as administrator upon petition by Dr. Davia with creditors named.
A judiciary committee meeting in Mayor Cronin's office reviewed Architect John Barnes's suit against the city. The panel postponed considering franchise inquiries, awaiting legal department input before any broader organization action.
Wilmington fish and game club held a large meeting last evening. Members expressed strong enthusiasm and highlighted the organization’s active role in local conservation efforts.

Barr, Barr & Barr represent Mrs. Connell, who has a five year old daughter Rosella.
Robert E Wise filed for divorce from his wife alleging she struck him and neglected household duties. The couple wed in La Salle on November 25 1905 and separated March 15 1909 in Marseilles. Lawyer for the husband is Garnsey Wood Lennon.
Judge Cowing fixed the final hearing for June 27 on the improvement project to pave the east and west alley from Union Street to Richards Street behind the Gerlach-Barklow Calendar factory.
The state convention of highway commissioners in Illinois met in Aurora forming a permanent organization led by George Haywood with W D Hall of Joliet as secretary. About fifty delegates from townships with large cities discussed the 14W tax law and planned to draft a bill enabling townships to levy road and bridge taxes independently of cities. A Blooming ton meeting on September 27 will finalize the bill for the next legislature.
