Mrs. Frank O'Brien 38 years old died from burns after gasoline spilled on clothing ignited on a 316 Fifth avenue stove. Harold Sutherland and other relatives resided nearby. coroner notified. funeral planned for tomorrow.
The couple exchanged lilies of the valley and white Persian lawn as flowers. The maid of honor wore white and carried bridesmaid roses. A wedding supper followed. Mr. and Mrs. Balensiefer planned a northern trip then residence at their home after August 1. Among gifts was the deed for 102 Sherman Street. Out of town guests included Tyr Balensiefer Peru Illinois Miss Milsom Buffalo New York Mrs John Lahee Burlington Iowa Chester Turner Aux Sable Mrs George B House Miss Mott Miss Puffer Chicago.
Residents endured 92 degree heat yesterday then faced freezing temperatures today as winds shifted at 5 p.m. and the mercury dropped about 20 degrees between 6 and 8 p.m. The morning reading hovered from 60 to 68 degrees with 60 at midnight and rain and wind forecast.
A small gathering at 201 Miller Avenue hosted by Master Willard Bernard featured young guests. The lawn was decorated with tuney and lanterns, gates and other ornaments. Refreshments included cake lemonade and fruit. Attendees listed include Ellen Anderson Edn Bernard Hilda Anderson Louise Dahlen Helen Cox May Belle Nobes Lillian Ingalls and Willard Bernard.
The Epworth League held a program social last night in the church parlors. Miss Hdna Brannon gave dramatic readings and Miss Viola Flutenschisen piano solo. Mrs Mayme Biddle offered vocal selections. Several unique games followed and refreshments were served.
Edward Walsh reports a red bicycle stolen Monday from Ducker's Corner Chicago and Clinton streets. The thief remains at large and the bike had adjustable handlebars. The note adds a tongue in cheek remark about fashion and racing cars.
W G Barnes recaptured Chas Johnson known as the veg man after a failed escape from captors. Johnson was brought to the city for police turnover and landed at police headquarters before being sent to the county jail awaiting grand jury action.
John Lambert predicts an excellent outlook for general business with strong steel prospects. He notes Minots Steel is sold through next year and Carnegie Steel is not at full rail capacity yet but is seeing faster than expected orders.
Fire struck rear of Peter Piano general store in South Wilmington Illinois last evening destroying Piano's store George Smith hardware and two saloons. Losses estimated at 20000 with stock losses and building damage but some stock saved thanks to rapid response by Gardner Braceville and local firms.
Express Car No 20 of the J P A electric line debuted this morning bringing Duss and his band from Aurora to Ingall's Park. The car, passenger length, has end angle doors for express parcels and side doors like freight cars. Inside are hinged seats along the sides that fold away for passenger use in emergencies. A regular schedule will be issued to reduce delays from carrying express on passenger cars.
Florence Rudd and Francis Miller served as flower girls and the wedding featured Miss Day, sister of the bride, as a match. The Rudd couple will live in Greeley where the groom works at a sugar factory. The Thompson family plans a Bebee Draw ranch home, with the Rudd family well known in Joliet for its relatives.
Novoe Vremya denounces President Roosevelt for ordering the Russian warships at Manila to leave or dismantle. Naval officials express indignation and threaten a firmer posture, while Admiral Enquist is barred from repairing vessels in Manila Bay.
Governor General Trepoff in St. Petersburg urged high school principals to unite for pushing tuition in all universities to five hundred rubles a year. He argues education widens awareness of government weakness and evil conditions.
In St. Petersburg on June 7 the Czar urged peasants to cooperate with a royal commission led by M. Louli gan, interior minister, to work out details of a representative assembly. The proclamation bears the date of last Saturday.
Nagasaki reports the Russian transport Rion halted the British steamer Cilurnum about eighty miles off Woosyng on June 2 and ordered a boarding party aboard. Some cargo was thrown overboard before the Russians departed, likely fearing Japanese warships nearby.
St Petersburg reports Ambassador Meyer had an interview with the foreign minister and attended a special audience with the emperor at Tsarkoe Selo after meeting with Larnsdorff at eleven last night. The discussions come amid reports that the advisers favor peace.
The federal grand jury probing the packing industry resumes after a month long recess. Circuit Judge Humphrey charges the jury as State's Attorney Morrison recruits Attorn ey General Moody in Washington. Senator Cullom, visiting the federal building, says he is managing his re election campaign and denies influence on the beef cases.
The Storthing announces dissolution of the union with Sweden under King Oscar and bars him from acting as Norway's king. The present state council is authorized to govern Norway until a new government forms, with ministers resigning and the council empowered to act under the constitution. A proclamation to the people is anticipated.
Undet advisement, and will not give his decision for several days. Macy versus Macy includes a bill for divorce. Mandelbaum versus Newton reports an appeal by the defendant from Justice Roche who ruled for the plaintiff in the sum of 10.70 in a debt action.
Attorneys Moriarty and others for the plaintiffs received abstracts and briefs from Springfield this morning. Ten days will be allotted for the defendants to answer, then five days for the plaintiffs to reply. After these preliminaries the case goes to the Supreme Court with no ruling expected until October.
Police arrest J. E. Taylor in a Thomas Stewart robbery case. Mrs. Jos. Clay Burg will try to identify Taylor from her close description. He frequented the Volunteers of America retreat and the Stewart saloon on Cass street. Lieut. Connors made the arrest.
Andrew Grencik caused the arrest of Mat Balon and Joseph Triesna on dramshop charges without a city license. Magistrate Allen postponed to allow witnesses for the defense. The Meeker avenue saloon is backed by Anheiser Busch.
A Stockholm telegram to Premier Michelson reports King Oscar’s strong protest against government actions. A Times correspondent notes Sweden has indirectly assured Norway no forcible measures will be used to keep the union, after 1814 arrangements and 1872 disputes reemerge amid King Oscar’s new appointments.
Police seek an unnamed 50 year old woman who spent most of yesterday at 107 North Broadway. She left a bundle of clothing later secured by Captain Carey and found in a shed. No trace of her had been found by noon today. she is described in a black shawl skirt and black straw hat.
The case recalls Patrick Hayes who swindled $5000 from Captain S A Oliver on a Will McMahon farm false ownership claim. An injunction suit seeks to restrain Recorder Geist from transferring trust deeds and halting sale until the court rules. Judge Garnsey died before ruling. matter reopened this morning with Judge Dibell addressing a demurrer in Crolius election contest.
Wisconsin reports show higher losses from a late day storm with widespread flooding. Mills close at Menasha and other towns become isolated as rails and wires fail, a raft of lumber sinks near Menasha, and a landslide nearly fills Mirror Lake near Dalton.
The forecast calls for generally fair conditions with cooler temperatures tonight and again on Thursday. No precipitation is expected.
Mrs. Thos Brannon aged 55 died Tuesday afternoon at her Chicago home. Survived by daughters Mrs BE Haley Mrs Edward Marhofer Miss Julia Brannon and son George E E Brannon all of Chicago. Formerly Miss Mary Clarkson of this city. Funeral in Chicago tomorrow with arrival at 9 22 by Rock Island. Services at St Patrick s church and burial in St Patrick s cemetery.
An ambulance was called yesterday afternoon to the Jefferson Street crossing of the Rock Island line and removed Gust Kane to St Joseph's hospital. He is reported ill with stomach trouble.
Members of Stevenson Camp Royal Neighbors are asked to meet at 205 N Broadway at 8 80 tomorrow morning to attend the funeral services for Neighbor Burkhard.
John F. Gleason, a noted machinist once with Illinois Steel, attempted self destruction by gas at his home 317 Collins Street. He later fled toward Cass Street, sought restoratives at a drug store, claiming he was fooling the household and not intending to die. He had recently lost work and had shown peculiar behavior.
At a regular meeting of the Ladies Advisory board of Silver Cross Hospital new members elected are Mrs. H C Calner Mrs J E Fredericks and Mrs G W Brown. The 1905 06 entertainments dates were set for October 24 December 6 1905 January 16 February 6 and the first Tuesday after Easter 1906. Graduating exercises for the training class are scheduled at the Universalist church June 22 at 8 p m with refreshments and a program of solos readings and diplomas presented by Henry Leach.
The funeral for Mrs. Margaret O'Brien who died from burns after a gasoline explosion will be held at her home on Fifth Avenue Thursday at 2:30 p.m. She is survived by her husband, mother Mrs. Mary Sutherland, three sisters in Joliet and Berwick, Pa., and two brothers in Joliet and Chicago.
Mrs E B Love invites the ladies and friends of the Richards street W F M 8 to an all day meeting at her home tomorrow Thursday June 8. Meet at Richards street bridge for the 10 20 am car and housing conveyances at the terminus. Lunch will be served. A large attendance is desired.
