Illinois Steel plans a $3 million coke ovens complex north of the E. J. & E. tracks in Joliet. The four unit project will produce 2,240 tons daily, require 300 workers, and assure a coke supply for the mills, with completion targeted by January 1, 1909.
Funeral services for Anton Auer will be held Friday at 1 p.m. from his late home in Lockport township with Rev Seely officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood. Auer died en route to his home in West Lockport after visiting relatives near Kansas City while waiting for a train. he was a longtime Will County farmer.
The Republican Office stays open evenings until 9 o clock for Qur patrons who cannot visit during the day. Call or come in the evenings for accommodations.
The Illinois Steel Company at Joliet reported record May output across billets spikes and red mills. Billet production hit 50 210 tons surpassing March’s 50 291 ton mark while Spike mill yielded 76 480 kegs of nails and red mills ran above average as Joliet’s economy boomed. A new coke plant was announced to bolster growth and local officials touted full-capacity operations and high employment.

The Wilmington board of aldermen and Wilmington Light & Power Co. failed to finalize a new contract leaving the city without street lights tonight. Authorities report the lack of agreement means no illumination as of this afternoon and residents may await further action.
The quarrel between Mrs. George and Mrs. Annette over electrical rates led to a riot at Bluff Street. Magistrate Allen ordered Mrs. George to depart the city. both parties faced police, with the offender jailed overnight and a later court promise to leave.
Services for the late Lillian Hartong infant daughter of Mr and Mrs M F Hartong will be held tomorrow at 2 pm at their home 144 Spencer street Aurora.
Frank P. Tupper of 405 Collins Street is building a forty foot seagoing launch for a late summer inland cruise toward New Orleans. The craft, likely the largest in the city, will reach about twelve miles per hour and carry his wife and two children, with stops for hunting and fishing. The project began in April and could cost $1500 to $2000 if purchased.
Chicago publishers file a 10 000 civil action against local newsdealer George W Gardner and threaten possible criminal charges. Attorneys Matz Fisher & Boyden represent the Record-Herald as the case seeks to limit alleged false statements in a circular letter claiming Gardner’s attack by ruffians during a meeting of newsdealers.
