Two hundred Joliet Elks will travel to Aurora tonight for the ninetieth anniversary celebration of the Aurora street cars. They depart from the depot at corner Ottawa and Climton streets at 6:50 PM, with a fast car leaving Aurora at 1:00 PM. Delegations from Elgin DeKalb Joliet and Chicago lodges join the festivities as bands provide music for the street parade and Coliseum program.
Joe Welch entertained guests at the corner of Center street and Western avenue in honor of his cousin Miss Vita Welch of Kankakee. About twenty people attended and enjoyed games and vocal solos by Dr Limarher and Miss Nita Mich, with Welch staying as guest of her cousin through the early part of next week.
About fifteen young ladies from the millinery department of the Boston store enjoyed an outing last evening. They boarded for the event and were abundantly provided with picnic supper fare. After meals they attended a dance at the Steel Works.
Leonard H Eggers two year old son of Mr and Mrs William Eggers living four miles east of the city wandered to the barnyard and fell into a circular watering trough. He was submerged and suffocated before help could arrive. Coroner Noel attended and a jury verdict followed.
A party of young ladies visited Electric Park for an art outing. They dined on a picnic supper and enjoyed the park’s amusements in pleasant outdoor air. The group included Misses Margaret O Rourke Mayme Mattie Samuelson Kitty Kearns Blanche Fuhrmann Florent Stahl and Marie Samuelson. A glow light dance at the Park featured Eversoll's orchestra with Eversoll performing Thursday evening. Plenty of cars available for transport.
A grand sacred concert was held at the Catholic church in Morris Monday evening. Rev. Father Vaughan led the service with a selection of hymns and choral music attracting local attendees to the event.
Joseph Jaeger the Joliet baritone sang The Holy City in a program featuring Morris talent including Mrs Gebhard and Misses Mary and Lizzy Walsh, noted vocalists, alongside a noted lecturer delivering one of his famous addresses.
The Whatsoever Birds held a musicale yesterday at the home of Mrs Johns Lambert on Herkimes Street attended by about 160 women. A 2 program and social hour raised 26.58 dollars to aid in rebuilding the Home for Incurables in San Francisco. Mrs Adelia Mack reported on a Wheeling trip to the King’s Daughters and Sons annual convention. The season's final meeting is set for June 29 with a 12 30 luncheon hosted by Mrs Harry Humphrey.
A pleasant surprise party was given for Robert Thorp at the river home 11 Oneida street. The twelfth birthday and a farewell to move to Kalama, Michigan were celebrated with games, music, and refreshments. Attendees included Evelyn Nusshaum Alma Beck Henrietta Bisset Bessie Seeley Florence Kraft Alida Ht Emma Brown Robert Cronin Sherman Nusshaum Elmer Campbell Fred George Brown Walter Kraft Harold Pounardson and Robert Thorp.
In the baseball game yesterday Plainfield defeated Joliet 6 to 2. Snapp allowed five runs to Boughton three while Boughton fanned eighteen batters to Snapp's thirteen. Joliet led until late errors by Erb and Palmer allowed five Plainfield runs.
The Ottawa Street M. E. Church invites all community members with flowers to donate. Blossoms will be crafted into bouquets and delivered to the prison, with scripture verses attached. All help possible is welcome.
The father of Daniel Stua’s son on North Hickory Street was court fined $5 plus costs for neglecting to send the boy to school. A second warrant led to another $5 fine after the boy continued truancy, with the father promising to enforce schooling in the future.
Mary Bauer obtained a divorce from Robert Bauer in Judge Dibel's court. The decree orders $3 weekly child support and $25 in solicitor fees. Witnesses supported the claim of neglect, intoxication, and cruelty during the marriage.
Mrs Frank Lamon entertained the Ottawa street M E L church choir and friends at her home 1231 South Richards Street in honor of her mother Mrs HL M David of Cleveland Ohio The party featured national colors peonies ice cream cake lemonade and a baby photo contest with prizes to Miss Clara Sehenker and Roy Zinser Music provided entertainment.
A surprise party was held last night at the home of Miami Ella Webster on Case Street with twenty five friends gathering to honor Miss Webster. The event featured a warm welcome and cheerful celebration for the young woman.
