Captain E C Bowen led the force which kept opening clear at Elgin Joliet and Chicago and Alton depots without delay or disturbance. Each guard received a Roosevelt star and a flag cane. Colors purple and white were displayed.
A presidential train delay near Aurora caused by Col Lambert's private car attached to the train. Secretary Loeb ordered the car removed after a dispute over permission. The incident shortened the Joliet schedule and required rapid handling as the president proceeded, with engineers pushing the engine to make up time.
