They seek an injunction to stop trains and track elevation and demand about three and a half million dollars.
Oscar Ernst, bitten on the leg, hides at home on M7 Pine Street after a mad house-cat belonging to Mrs. Katherine Schluter at 157 Pine Street charged into a street ball game. Dr Clyne treated wounds while Stukel shot the animal to end the threat. The cat, about fifteen years old, had acted strangely for a week.
Edna Rush and Bayly A Pilcher were quietly married at Benton Harbor Michigan on June 2 at the bride's sister Mrs William Barentsens home on Church street Rev W Cady officiated. The bride wore a gown of oe French lawn trimmed with lace and carried bride roses. The rooms were decorated with bridal wreath roses and carnations. An elaborate supper followed alongside immediate relatives and guests from Benton Harbor Joliet and other nearby areas.
Mrs N Richards of 114 Union Street entertained last evening in honor of her friend Mrs F Demmick of New York City. Progressive cinch provided part of the evening and Miss Ethel Holmes offered musical selections. Refreshments were served with guests including Miss M Kier Miss E Berger Miss E Holmes I Smith B Barrett Maud Richards and Mrs Demmick.
The Grand Theater management opens its new playhouse to the public Saturday evening June 4 with a reception for future patrons. A fine musical program will be rendered as Joliet residents view the decorations and arrangements of the charming venue.
Springfield reports Deneen wins on the 79th ballot with 957 1/2 votes to Lowden 5222 and others. Multiple factions maneuver as Yates and Deneen lines shift, talk of alliances, recess moves, and potential London backing unfold amid a heated Illinois political convention.
The Methodist Ministers association opens Monday evening June 6 at Richards Street M E Church with a supper followed by speeches and music. Rev J H Odgers will toast, with others including Rev S W Thornton Rev W M Ewing Rev Wilmer Jaggard Rev L L Hammitt and John B Mecham. Ottawa Street M B choir will provide music and about 800 ladies of Richards Street church will entertain. Tickets available from C E B Wilson and C F Pinneo.
Commencement Week for the senior class includes field day at Ingalls Park on Tuesday, class day Wednesday, and commencement Thursday June 9. The 81-member class features a baccalaureate address by Rev J Hastie Odgers and a program of music, addresses, and medals marking the end of high school at the auditorium.
The Springfield convention scene centers on a late fluke from Williamson county that shifts Lowden’s momentum during the three ballots up to the seventy third. Despite a net gain of 119 votes, his lead dissolves as the deadlock persists while Williams county returns to Yates and other counties drift back to former camps.
Police seek a lone male suspect described as slim and wearing a tilted hat who tapped at windows while a party was in progress at Mrs. R. W W. Clark's home on Third Avenue. Similar window taps reported on Fourth Avenue, with local residents hoping for arrest as police brace for more nights of activity around 11:30 p.m.
Mrs. Sarah A. Pepper files in county court against Isabel Swensen and William Nelson parents saying the children are not cared for. Accuses Isabels parents of driving her from home and using obscene language. Summons issued for the Nelson parents and others familiar with the other home. Court aims to remove the children and place them in a suitable home to become useful citizens.
Misses Mabel and Nellie Jones hosted a Wednesday evening gathering at 221 Sterling Avenue with guests Misses Sara Kreiser Alta Kreiser Ruth Cary Estelle Walz Minnie Constance Fannie Ellis Ethel Scofield Mabel Jones Nellie Jones and Messrs Guy Bilslend Robert Crellin Frank Spicer Leonard Krieser Fred Miller Sentis Smith and Fred Stinson. Refreshments of ice cream and cake were served.
Mr and Mrs Charles Wilcox entertained last evening at their Marion Street home with a hard times party. Twenty five couples attended as children danced and guests wore thrift era regalia. Refreshments followed a frugal hard times theme.
Cards announce the approaching marriage of Miss Emma Grace Thomas and Charles Arthur Lusch in Columbus on Wednesday June 8. Lusch has worked in city directories for R L Polk & Company and will host a formal reception from 8 to 10 at 643 East Spring Street.
Early morning burglaries hit the Blackhall and Naal residences along with the home of Supt. J R Hall and Amos Naal on D Arcy Avenue. Despite break ins no valuables were taken, though cash and a desk were disturbed at Blackhall’s place. Detectives Murphy and Com were on scene with no arrests.
