Memorial Day observance in Joliet honors veterans with a ceremony led by Veterans of Joliet as Spanish American War veterans and others assist, reflecting fitting solemnity.
Memorial Day observation in Joliet featured a 112 veteran automobile parade without incidents. Despite rain and a threat of worse weather, ceremonies proceeded smoothly with veterans encouraged by the turnout and parade success.
Joliet Commandery No 59 hosted Englewood Commandery No 59 at the Masonic Temple for a gala banquet attended by about 160 Sir Knights and 300 banquet guests. A dazzling parade and drill impressed crowds as Ben Wilson acted as drill master with precise movements.
At Joliet Products annual meeting Adam Groth was elected president J J Gas kill vice president and C B E Woodruft secretary treasurer and general manager. The board of directors remains the same and the plant is running night and day to fill orders.
All local banks will be represented at the Northeastern Illinois Bankers' Association meeting in Elgin. George Woodruff of the First National Bank serves as association president.
John F. Herron of Joliet was elected to the vice presidency of the State Letter Carriers Association at a Streator meeting. Herron had served as secretary of the organization. The Joliet delegate cited is Thomas F. Martin.

Frank Mayo six feet tall with a sixteen inch collar of a strong build is accused of fighting Fred Phillips after a dispute over a wall removal job. Officers at the police station report Mayo’s boastful account of the confrontation and both men were fined by Justice Allen after witnesses testified.
A large throng attended the dedication of the DuPage Presbyterian Church the second oldest in Illinois. Rev. M B McNutt preached from Acts 2 47 stressing that church growth comes from serving the Lord not mere wealth. The service included remarks by Rev Beddoes and others. the church has grown since 1900 with active youth and missionary groups.
The Country club opened its golf links with a holiday crowd and about forty players. Campbell's team defeated Robinson's 19 to 16 in a spirited opening game with strong scores across both sides.
A man named Javigan attempted suicide after being caught leaving a store with stolen goods yesterday. He reportedly told officers that death seemed preferable to prison. Police arrested him at the scene and transported him to the local jail for processing.
Louis Gavigan, 24, recently released from jail, was nabbed early yesterday for robbing George Bronith’s store at 813 North Chicago. He attempted to hang himself in the police station with a shirt rope, but fellow prisoners alerted officers. The county physician said he feigned distress, and Gavigan claimed not to recognize his parents when confronted.
Gavigan attempted to kill Patrolman Mandelli with a butcher knife after a failed bribery. he was overpowered, then taken to the station. Police recovered four foreign wins, jewelry, rings, watch chains, charms, and knives on him. He had previously tried to kill city detective George Mason in a chicken house.
The McKinley Syndicate extends its interurban operations to Joliet, announcing the Morris Line will be completed this year.
Congressman W. B. McKinley visited Joliet to finalize plans linking the Illinois Traction Company Morris line with Joliet and the Des Plaines street line of the Fisher company. A double track to Rockdale is planned with joint operation by both firms. General superintendent Mr. Chubbuck will return soon to finalize cooperation contracts.
J Merle Plant formerly Armour and Co local manager was elected secretary and general manager of Woodruff Safe Deposit Co and will have complete charge of the business. The board of directors made the selection at their morning meeting. Plant is a bustling Joliet business man with strong executive capacity.
