Joliet Firm Proposes Ten Year Dead Animal Disposal Franchise

Springfield officials meet Joliet contractors seeking a ten year exclusive franchise to haul and dispose of all dead animals. The plan would establish a plant outside the city, handle carcasses at no cost to the city, recover skins and grease, and render fertilizer from bones with a nearby disposal system reducing odor.

Joliet steamer to reach Chicago after repairs and tests

The Joliet steamer, recently bought by the drainage board, is expected to reach Chicago soon after refitting in Sagina w. Storms may have delayed its voyage from Sagina w. Plans call for a trial run down the canal to Peoria and possibly St Louis to inspect river banks. The vessel will be used for canal inspections once channel work resumes.

Boulevard Heights electric cars loop around the loop

Commencing today the Boulevard Heights cars will run around the loop avoiding the downtown terminus at Jefferson and Ottawa streets. A new car was added to ensure a 26 minute loop service. West Side cars adopt the loop and summer cars are pending arrival. Service changes reflect higher expenses but improved patron convenience. Potential delays to extensions due to street reconstructions are noted.

Sacred Concert at St Johns Universalist Church

Ackert Named President of Chicago Belt Lines

The Chicago Chronicle quotes CO. H Ackert recently elected president and general manager of the Chicago Lake Shore Eastern and the Elgin Joliet Eastern railways. Ackert began as a telegraph operator in 1872 and rose through roles before leading both belt lines controlled by the Federal Steel Company.
