School board balks at 70 per foot land price near Grover Street

James McMicken a well known stockman from Na Au Say shipped seventeen Percheron horses from the Rock Island yards yesterday afternoon. The animals were consigned to a farm in Towa and valued at $5000. McMicken has bought land near Spirling Canada and plans to move there in March 1909.

Missing Kos feared to have harmed self amid heat

Relatives and friends of Frank Kos of 1007 North Broadway fear he may have died by his own hand. He left the horse shoe mill where he works last Tuesday morning and colleagues, overheated by heat, fear he acted while temporarily crazed and have asked police to help locate him dead or alive.

Proposed Viaduct Debate in Ridgewood Meeting

A Ridgewood mass meeting on the proposed viaduct over the Elgin Joliet & Eastern tracks deferred final action. The plan would close Stevens Avenue and Maple and Jackson streets while creating a twenty foot viaduct with eight foot sidewalks. Property owners fear loss of direct access to the Cass Street line and want Stevens Avenue kept open. An additional session will be scheduled to further discuss the project and address outstanding concerns.

Speedy Driver Fined in City Campaign for Speeding

Albert Von Esch the first chauffeur arrested for speeding in the city campaign was fined $5 and costs after Patrolman Dan McCarthy testified he traveled about forty miles per hour on Bluff Street. The state law raises hopes of finding more violators as the search continues.

Woodruff Road dispute over flooding and board inquiry

St John Waldvogel owner of property on Woodruff road west of the penitentiary demands relief from the Commissioners of Highway claiming that road work floods his land after heavy rain. The board denies responsibility but will investigate while approving a monthly payroll of 446.50.

At Dellwood last night the electric system failed during a storm that hit the north circuit of the high tension line. The crowd kept good humor as sporadic lights flickered and rain pattered outside while dancers carried on.

The Seigel Cooper and Co annual employer picnic is set for tomorrow at Rock Run Park. Five trains will transport the crowd and Lem Northern has arranged entertainment with extra attendants and resort equipment placed on condition for the occasion.

Dan Cupid and Others Helped by Town Officer

The office of Supervisor Herath received three aid calls within a half hour showing his varied duties. A Plainfield farmer sought a helpmeet to replace a deceased mother for his sons. Forest Park resident complained of Frank Bablock an 18 year old deserted by foster parents and forced to beg and steal. Mia Senecker, wife of a former Third ward saloonist, reported desertion and destitution three weeks ago.

Gift by town ruled outside law and settlement house funds

Town Supervisor John R. Herath refused to release 1500 dollars approved at the last annual town meeting for a sewer project linked to the Chase Avenue Settlement house. Legal opinion holds the town cannot tax for or grant funds to the settlement, which critics say misuse public money and serve as a misleading form of charity.

Camp Dance Opens At Electric Park Tonight

The first Campers' dance of the season at Electric Park will be held at the Plainfield resort tonight. Sweet's ore provides the music as the canvas village guests enjoy a night of dancing and entertainment during the weekend start. Augusta referenced exchange and a remark by Mr. Wyss appears in the tale of quarrel and necessity.
