Mary Measures Up for Board's Action in Joliet

The Joliet school board held a heated yet peaceful session approving twelve new teaching certificates, naming Curry as Manual Training instructor, retaining janitors, and hiring E. R. Potter as engineer for Scott and Van Buren schools. Minor improvements, coal and supply bids, a large electric fan, and a full review of school repairs were approved with plans to begin before the new term.

Matthew Connors of the Detective bureau was severely hurt alighting from a car near his Brooklyn home. He sprained his left ankle and will be confined to his home for a fortnight. The Dellwood band has a special German night Tuesday evening.

Bad Penny Recurs in Chicago Street Saloon Incident

Anton Klodovic a Chicago street saloonist refused a counterfeit five dollar bill from Steve Revertz who had bought drinks for himself and Matt Phelan. A fight followed and Officers Stefanich and Riley arrested them at Klodovic's, with a hearing set before Judge Goodspeed. The note was a stock certificate from Salem & Memphis railroad to Shelby county Tennessee amid the Panic of 1873.

Joliet Mayor Cronin Back After Busy Denver Week

Mayor John R. Cronin resumed office in Joliet this morning after a trip to Denver where he praised civic hospitality and praised the city’s cleanliness. He predicts Bryan will win the nomination and plans to address Joliet business backlog with department heads.

Lockport Man Taken in Dellwood Assault Case

Sam Price of Lockport was taken into custody last night by Deputy Sheriff Kelly of the Dellwood police. Price was wanted for having assaulted several street car men at Dellwood on Saturday night. He will face trial before Justice Goodspeed on Friday morning. Woodman Drill team at Dellwood tonight.

Letter Ownership Dispute In Joliet Case Involving Austrian Consul

The Austrian consul in Chicago may travel to Joliet to settle ownership of a letter entitling large European land interests. Mrs Agnes Kozbek of Joliet claimed the letter found at the Chicago consulate, but her cousin George Kozbek took it claiming it was his. Local police cannot resolve the fight, prompting possible consul involvement in Joliet.

First ward man faces assault charge in police court

Thomas Clark, a well known First ward resident, is brought to police court on a complaint by Mrs. Mary Ickes of North Collins street accusing him of scratching and biting her after an exchange of vile names. Chicago and Alton Railroad must hire a night watchman at the Washington street crossing after a city council vote. Alderman King cited dangerous conditions and multiple engine movements observed near the yards, prompting action and notice to the railroad committee.
