Joliet bakers claim victory as the Illinois Supreme Court rules Chicago bread ordinances constitutional requiring sixteen ounces per loaf and proper labeling. Local sealer Kramer warns against short weight shipments, while Chicago bakers plan a possible appeal to the U S Supreme Court.
Mrs Stephen A Oliver a longtime Joliet resident died at home after a five month illness. Born Caroline A Laskey January 18 1839 in Salem Massachusetts she came to Joliet in 1881 with her husband and remained active in the Central Presbyterian church. She leaves a son and daughter and two brothers. Funeral Friday at 10 from the Oliver residence with burial in Elmhurst cemetery.
The annual function of a popular charitable organization drew about 500 members and guests to the New Armory Hall in Joliet. The event highlighted the club’s social and charitable activities within the community.
Dame Society in te gown and jewel zed fete hosted by Holy Club grid, a charity ball drawing five hundred followers in a kaleidoscope of color. Earl Caswell Jr. barely survived when his horse and buggy were struck by a Rock Island train at the Scott Street crossing around 10 in the morning. The buggy and horse were destroyed, Caswell was thrown clear, and witnesses feared fatal injuries before he stood and complained of bruises. He was taken home with only minor injuries.
