Noble Jones a well known pioneer of Will County died at his Mokena home at seven this morning after a short illness. Born in Stanstead Plains Canada on November 16 1834 he came to Will County at age ten. Survived by daughters Mrs J P Stephens Mrs Fred W Phelps of Joliet Mrs Walter Metcalf and E F Jones of Kansas City Funeral at Mokena Methodist Church Friday at two with burial in Marshall Cemetery.
Mayor Cronin and the city clerk signed checks for municipal workers so they can take home their Christmas money. The city employes will be paid on Friday.
Joe Horwat and Steve Waladovich arrived in Joliet from Milwaukee and began trouble on Collins street. They were arrested by Policeman Gardner and today each was fined for drunken and disorderly conduct.
Judge Campbell grants a ten day extension to W. H. Rhinne F. H. Opperman and A. H. Smithr to plead in the case where they and Ernest W. Balgeman are named as defendants by the village of Crete.
Police expect Captain Murphy to recover diamonds taken from Christensen Pawn Shop and obtain possession within a few days. The case centers on the location and recovery of the stolen gems.
Joliet police and Pinkerton detectives close to solving the December 15 burglary at Christensen pawn shop. Fred Wortz and Captain Murphy identify Carson as the man seen entering the store, matching Edward Rice's description in Chicago and Omaha cases. Carson faces Chicago charges. recovery of four diamonds is anticipated.

Charles E Southard founder and first editor of the Morris Herald died at 76. Born in Summerville New Jersey he started the Herald in 1855 and edited until 1874 selling to P G Hayes. He served as Morris postmaster and deputy customs collector and came to Morris with L B Ray, former lieutenant governor of Illinois.
Charitably minded citizens are urged to aid the Salvation Army which plans at least one hundred Christmas baskets. They will include potatoes sugar canned goods bread biscuits cranberry pies butter tea coffee and possibly chickens if funds permit. Baskets will be assembled by volunteers today and Thursday and distributed Friday at Salvation Army headquarters 611 Jefferson Street.
Edward Jordan a convict serving forty years for murder seeks Supreme Court review of his case on a writ of error. He has served fifteen years. the question is when the writ of error limit expires in criminal cases. The appeal will be closely watched by state lawyers.
Judge Cowing approves the Spring Creek Drainage petition to issue bonds totaling 21 530 70 to be paid in ten installments. The second assessment totals 50 000 with 28 469 30 paid. railroads and Joliet city owe 16 457 and objectors have appealed to the Supreme Court. Commissioners L F Beach Victor Ahlvin and Adolphus Yonker say funds are needed to finish the project.
Mrs. Augusta Anderson slipped on a slick sidewalk Monday night and fractured her right wrist. She reached home before realizing the seriousness, later being attended by a physician who set the bone. She rests comfortably with friends optimistic for a swift recovery.
