Human bones found in burned stump on farm
In a burning maple stump on Henry Wolford's property in LaPorte a mass of cooked human bones was discovered. Wolford and farm hand John Kowenski were coon hunting on November 22 Kowenski is missing and Wolford allegedly claimed Kowenski got lost in the woods his wife questions the remark.

Aged flagman beaten by highwaymen at Rock Island crossing
John McCarthy, 65, gate-tender at the Jefferson Street tower, was beaten and left for dead by two robbers. He was found at daybreak prostrate with frostbite on face and hands, removed to St. Joseph's Hospital, and described the assailants to police.
