Blaine of Gallagher & Blaine threatens libel action if Joliet Herald does not retract a story discrediting concrete work at Spring Creek channel. officials and contractors dispute samples, defend workmanship, and call the article false and sensational.

Howard T. Keltie, former Seventh Ward alderman, was badly injured Friday April 3 at Western Ore Purchasing Co. in Goldfield Nev. His right hand was mangled and three fingers were lost. He is recovering at the county hospital and may not return to work for weeks.
The Spring Creek Drainage district and the city reached an understanding on relocating city water mains crossing the new Spring Creek channel at Washington street. New 12 and 14 inch mains will be laid across the channel with 150 feet of new line each side. old pipes will be removed after connections. Work starts immediately with supervision by City Engineer Stevens and Waterworks Foley.
The township board of school trustees met at the Will County bank and elected Henry Weber president on Saturday. J. D. Paige was reap pointed clerk and treasurer. Weber succeeds W. J. Butler as president.
Unknown burglars entered the Braun Kiep building in Chicago street and took gold valued at ten dollars from Dr John Limacher's dental parlors during last night. A police report has been filed.

A noon fire swept two homes on Gardner Street south of the city limits, destroying the Erickson and Pete houses. Wind drove flames rapid, aiding embers to threaten nearby structures. Fire chief, Ruddy, and James Paul Rgured avoided a near collision when driver Spesia warned of a loose wheel.
Two confrontations marked the finale of a bitter dispute between the North Chicago street playhouse management and the Howard Stock Co. at the Grand theater and on North Ottawa street. Warrants were issued for Lou Goldberg amid threats to exile Lorin J. Howard in a box. The incidents drew several hundred spectators before authorities intervened.
John J. Walsh, stage manager for the Howard Co., and Goldberg fought during removal of company property from the Grand to the Joliet theater. Walsh suffered cuts to head and face after being knocked against a hose reel. He presented warrants for Goldberg’s arrest in Police Court on assault and battery charges.
The City Board of Local Improvements met this morning and discussed paving South Chicago Street with asphalt and macadamizing Raynor Avenue between Exchange and Marion Streets. A petition from twelve property owners led to estimates for brick paving of the alley south of Washington Street between Eastern and Richards streets. Bond for Monahan Bros. with Fidelity & Deposit Co. was approved for water main and sewer contracts. Proofs of notice for a cement sidewalk on Second Avenue were recorded.
Police under Chief McMasters clamp down on Sunday closures. Peter Marvin and Papus & Palus are fined 25 dollars plus costs for keeping open. Mrs Marvin fined 10 dollars for disorderly conduct. Two slot machines seized from George Bait and Sisul Brothers.
Mayor Ward of Lockport says the lid will remain tightly clamped down for all time to come. He notes houses of a notorious nature were emptied and thirsty men must go farther north for drink. The city has previously closed the lid but never with such resolve. No tolerance will be allowed.
The Illinois State Penitentiary under Warden E J Milhy was cleared by a legislative inquiry. Deputy Warden Henry Sims testified no abuse occurred, solitary confinement is the main punishment, and purchasing proceeded for best quality at low prices. Warden Murphy praised as one of the nation's finest prison men.
Stanley Zentarski was stabbed in a southbound Lockport car Saturday night at 11 45 in grave condition at St Josephs hospital. Police seek the assailant who allegedly fled after Zentarski admitted drinking and starting the fight.
