Joliet Masons plan to establish a new fraternal home by purchasing the Novelty Building on North Chicago street for 36500 dollars and shaping a 75000 dollar project to remodel and expand. Stock to 1500 shares of 50 dollars each will fund the plan, with subscriptions to begin immediately and profits from rentals to members.
A joint meeting of the First and Second precincts of the Sixth ward will be held Thursday evening at Listlero hall to select delegates to the Republican City convention. Dr. William A. McRoberts is named as aldermanic candidate against Michael McCarthy, who seeks re election. A big rally follows Saturday night at Union Italian club hall with all candidates present urging Republican voters to attend.
Bernice Corcoran, 18 months, daughter of Captain James Corcoran, drank carbolic acid left on a sideboard. She became unconscious and was revived after four hours of medical effort at her Aunt’s home. Rudolph J. Goeppinger retires after two years with Munroe Bros. & Co. The firm remains Munroe Bros. with George H. Monroe and Edwin Monroe as sole owners. Goeppinger plans to return to lumber and timber land ventures, with operations in Arkansas and Louisiana, and Joliet as his home for now.
Elgin Joliet & Eastern manager R B Campbell met Mayor Cronin and promised to start track and elevation work as soon as other lines begin. He said the F line elevation would be coordinated with others and would deploy a large force when possible. Cronin welcomed the assurances and expects nearby railways to begin soon.
John Handorf Sr aged 86 is reported to have committed suicide at his Pioneer residence. Police say he died by his own actions. no further details are provided in the brief notice.
John Handorf Sr. 86 years old left his home at about 4 pm and was found dead at 5 pm suspended from a tree in an orchard on the Handorf-Jr. farm. Coroner Noel Meld held an inquest this morning. verdict: death by own action due to old age debilitation and despondency.
A verdict and obituary note that Zohn Handorf was a pioneer resident who lived with his son John Handorf Jr. in recent years. The funeral service will be held tomorrow with interment at Worth.
The bankrupt stock of A. M. Scheidt North Chicago street was sold at public auction to I. Ettelson whose Chicago main store will open a new retail clothing shop in the same room soon. Stock alone brought 9 200 with fixtures at 810 and the combined sale reached 12 025. Receiver W J Cummings acted as auctioneer.
Alderman Sebastian Lagger of the Fourth ward announces he will not seek re election after twenty five years of service. A Republican voters meeting is set for tomorrow at 221 North Bluff street to choose a successor as Lagger cites business obligations and his wish to give others a chance. He is one of the council’s pioneer members and has earned a reputation as a capable public official.
John Dillon, a hose truck driver, and his wife were admitted to St. Joseph’s hospital after Dillon was tossed from a wagon at Chicago Street and Fifth Avenue during a run to a fire. He is in serious condition with arm and head injuries while his wife, suffering rheumatism, awaits news. A bystander restrained the runaway horse, and fire crews from stations 1 and 3 responded after a blaze at 710 Water Street.
The court held that highway commissioners must pay assessments for creek drainage work as part of the Creek-Drainage District in Marshall County.
