In Detroit on Christmas Eve a man named J S Groening, claiming Jewish faith, learned his family was safe after a telegram. He invited a dozen hungry men to dine in a hotel private room, providing the best meals as a gesture of happiness and aid. He hoped to ease fears about Russia and Jewish passports. Groening plans further aid for his wife and children now crossing into the U S from Germany.
Baltimore section of the National Council of Jewish Women withdrew from the national body by a 450 to to protest the administration of national officers and the suppression of a letter to the Philadelphia convention alleging extravagance and arbitrary procedure. The report also notes related events in Berlin and Kiev affecting Jewish travel and governance.
