Lewis Russell Hanged After Composed Scaffold Walk
Special to the Indianapolis Journal. Lewis Russell colored murdered Perry Stout in Gibson county near Princeton. He was hanged at 12 12 am at the State prison after a composed final hours, with chaplain Henderson visiting. Russell had fled after the April 28 killing, was captured in a tree top, convicted May 9, and sentenced to hang previously delayed by a governor’s reprieve. His body will be shipped to Princeton for burial.
