London Money Market Stays Firm Amid Half Year Demand

Money was distinctly harder today with demand fairly good yet subdued by week end closures. Prices for gilts and first-class securities softened as a large new borrowing loomed, while Americans strengthened in sympathy with New York. The Bank of England may need temporary action, and annual treasury bill yields surpassed expectations as foreign funds remained scarce. The exchange gap with America widens due to corporate financing and gold shipments. The Bank of England reserve, bolstered by a four million pound rise, will likely ease before autumn as holiday outflows reduce bullion.
