Senator Hanna Buys Indiana Quarry Land
Geologist Blatchley returned from southern Indiana with assistants to begin data collection for a new state geological map. He visited the American Quarries Company plant near Mitchell in Lawrence County, starved by a fishing creek district. The firm, funded by Cleveland capitalists, bought two acres of land, signed by Senator Marcus A. Hanna, and plans to invest about 200000 dollars to develop the quarries. A new railroad switch links the quarries to Rivervale on the Baltimore and Ohio Southwestern line, expanding outlets via the Bedford stone railroad to River Vale and Leipsic. The main quarry in the Fishing Creek district is now being opened with five channelers set up and seven more on the way.
