State officials dispute limits on quarantine authority
Governor Durbin and Attorney General Taylor rejected the view that the state cannot enforce quarantines when local officials fail in duty. They cited that quarantine laws have been amended to challenge enforcement and that the State Board of Health may struggle to compel strict action. Taylor, in a formal discussion, affirmed the board’s power to compel county officers to act, and to quarantine if needed.
