United Mine Workers accuse authorities of using injunctions to starve idle workers. B. Wilson and associates face charges for buying and distributing supplies to feed strikers. Wilson states the union will continue aiding idle men and families despite legal actions.
In Charleston and Parkerburg during July, federal injunctions target United Mine Workers leaders and strike organizers over the Gauley Mountain and Flemington coal fields. Warrants for contempt were issued for about fifteen men, while Mullahy, a key strike organizer, faced multiple charges after printing a list of prosecutors. Support and relief efforts spread across the Wyoming region as miners retreat and seek work in western districts, with pending action before Sept. 1.
Secretary Wilson declared that any restraining order blocking food shipments to hungry miners would be violated. He recounted ongoing coalfield aid to West Virginia, described attempts to halt supplies, and noted shipments from Cincinnati despite delays. In Wilkesbarre Pennsylvania J F Mullahy secretary of the Stationary Firemen's Association of Pennsylvania was arrested this afternoon on a libel charge. Twenty five complaints had been filed against him as part of a labor dispute provoking strong reactions locally.
Washington reports a cable from Port au Prince detailing General Colin marching with 200 men to repel Firmin’s army landed from a Haitian naval vessel. He confronted police and the theater owner at a music hall, was beaten into unconsciousness, and his features matched a Tracy photo at police headquarters. A reward of nearly seven dollars stood for the desperado, dead or alive.

Camden, New Jersey, July 2. Early returns suggest Loudenslager will secure a majority of roughly twenty five delegates as vote totals come in.
Dubuque Indiana July reports of a National Millers Federation grievance against Speaker Henderson claim he blocked the London dock bill. Henderson says he had not heard of the charge until Saturday and was surprised by the article.
The London Express reporter Harry De Windt arrives in Seattle after a six month trek across Siberia. He warns many so called prosperous cities along the route are mere hamlets with few inhabitants, noting famine and hardship among native communities.
A man named Raphael Competello was stabbed to death in the street after an altercation with Lizzie Spalding a Black woman. Investigators suspect Spalding or her husband may be involved in the killing.
Raphael Competello, a Neapolitan fruit vendor, was stabbed in the leg by a Black assailant near East Washington Street and New Jersey, severing the femoral artery. He staggered to the sidewalk and died within ten minutes. Police search for Joe Spalding of East Court Street amid crowd chaos.
Competello tried to hold up Lizzie Spalding, prompting a stone attack. Police suspect Joe Spalding killed the Italian and authorities search Spalding's home and nearby Negro boarding houses. Eyewitnesses questioned as officers scour alleys, yards, and rail yards. Spalding and his wife missing. investigators pursue leads. Competello, an Naples native, arrived in Indianapolis seven years ago.
Porterville, California July 23 ex convict James McKinney opened fire after entering a saloon killing one gambler and wounding four others. He seized a rig at a livery stable and exchanged shots with a pursuing group including a deputy marshal and constables. He boasted of the killings and headed toward Fresno County into the hills. Police from surrounding counties warned to watch for him. Two years earlier he killed a man at Bakersfield but was exonerated.
A. M. Rothschild, formerly head of A. M. Rothschild & Co. at State and Van Buren, killed himself at his Chicago home after returning from Minnesota. Acute insomnia likely caused temporary insanity. he was 57, leaves a widow and one son. He had retired from management two months earlier due to ill health, with Nelson Morris as principal store owner.
Two prisoners Fred Enis and John McQuig and sentry William Treet of Company M Twenty first Infantry disappeared from Fort Sheridan. Search parties combed woods and ravines with no trace, leaving questions if the guard deserted or was overpowered and whether an encounter occurred.
