Harbor boiler tube explosion sinks launch Harold near Torresdale
In Philadelphia on July 21 the steam launch Harold owned by W B Stanger of Pensauken New Jersey burst its boiler while moored along the Delaware opposite Torresdale. A W Stanger was drowned after being knocked overboard and J W Van Winkle the engineer fatally scalded. Other occupants escaped uninjured. In a separate report from St Petersburg a ferryboat sank on the Volga at Beresniki with fifty eight harvesters drowned.

A Jennings Louisiana oil well fire was extinguished this afternoon using steam from nine boilers arranged northeast of the blaze. Two four inch water lines and steam lines operated to cover the flames from multiple directions. The steam pressure reached about 12 pounds, delivering an estimated 225 horsepower, with pumps on the Jennings Heywood oil syndicate well supplying water and chemicals as a secondary measure.
