Chicago July 5 Inter Ocean reports a sweeping merger of Swift and Armour forming a dominant meat packing combine led by John D Rockefeller. The consolidation unites Swift Libby and Armour with controlling stakes in Anglo American and G H Hammond, while Cudahy Nelson Morris and Sulzberger Swarzchild are under negotiation.

Joseph H Marshall obtained Judge Tut hill’s appointment of R H Thatcher as receiver for the Movie Gold Mining Company an Arizona corporation amid charges of dishonest and corrupt management. The case may involve up to 1 900 000 and many Chicago residents including police and Catholics are said to have been victimized. Frank Jager alleged to have manipulated the affairs.
A Vienna dispatch to the Exchange Telegraph says a severe earthquake hit Salonica in European Turkey yesterday afternoon. Many houses were wrecked and substantial loss of life is reported though details are not yet available.
