Prices in wheat corn and hog products climbed as shorts covered and flood fears bolstered markets. May wheat opened higher, touched $1.02 1/4, and closed at $1.02 1/2 with pork and corn advancing amid tight hog receipts and forecasts of warmer weather affecting No. 2 corn supply.
A black valise carrying 25000 dollars was stolen tonight from the New York Transfer Company while being moved to the Desbrosses street ferry from the Grand Central depot. The incident occurred in New York on February 11.
The Ohio River rises to and passes last year’s high-water mark as floods worsen hourly. Five thousand Pomeroy residents camp on bleak hill slopes with hunger and privation spreading among the drowned-out crowds of Cincinnati Covington and Newport. James, jailed earlier, faces a U.S. hearing for the Mussel Shoals paymaster robbery. bail denied and he may be sent to Alabama this week.
