Washington dispatch publishes extracts from Lieutenant Kislingbury diary of the Greely Antarctic expedition. It quotes scathing notes about Greely and his leadership, citing foolish orders, a pistol used on the launch, and friction with Kislingbury, while praising Garlington and the crew for perseverance.
Joe Howard alias Kilrain, arrested by Pinkerton's in Philadelphia, is wanted for the 1883 robbery of the First National Bank of Coldwater, diamond haul worth 10,000 and a large cash sum. Alleged accomplices Eddy Quinn and two others aided the heist during banking hours, fending off the sheriff with revolvers. Howard, linked to multiple bank robberies from Waterford to Wilmington, is described as a daring criminal from a good New York family.

Rescue continued through the day with twenty five confined to beds by evening. the mill employs about 250 men and the loss is estimated at $10,000 with no insurance. Names and injuries of victims and witnesses are listed.
In Pottsville dated February 10 a boiler at the Trenton Colliery exploded, destroying the boiler house and fatally scalding fireman Charles Campbell. Debris injured a baby in a cradle sixty yards away.
The steamer Hornet, owned by the Kentucky and Ohio River Packet Company, struck the cribbing of lock No 1 five miles above Carrollton and sank in twenty five feet of water. It operated between Louisville and Frankfort with passengers and freight on board. insurance status unknown.
A collision occurred this afternoon at East Buffalo between New York Central engines. Fireman John Shea was slightly injured while switchman John Mahegan lost an arm. Both engines suffered substantial damage.
News from Lake Simon, the temporary terminus of the Quebec and St John railway, reports a fire Sunday that destroyed a camp six miles from the terminus. Four men occupied the camp and perished in the blaze.
The Amalgamated Association has issued a circular asking members to express views on a 10 per cent wage reduction for the coming year. Salem morocco manufacturers Peter Sims & Sons fail with liabilities about 35000 dollars, assets nominally equal, linked to the collapse of H Leonard & Co.
Chattanooga February 10 The Times announces factories resuming since January 1 in this city. Nearly 900 workers have been idle but are now employed. Additional mills plan to resume soon, bringing in about 600 more workers in coming weeks.
Assignment of S L Fraser and Co wholesale fruits oysters and canned goods to James Secor announced in Toledo Ohio dated February 10. No public statement yet on firm affairs.
Cotton manufacturers Ferry, Davis & Co. of Cincinnati have failed. Liabilities are $30,000, and preferences amount to $15,000. The case reflects a nominal obstacle, with creditors awaiting further action as the firm undergoes settlement.
