Chats With Society Girls Apr Luncheon Tales On Hats And Cloaks

A society luncheon tale recalls an April fool joke with hungry girls waiting hours for food, then a dinner of chocolates stuffed with cotton. The piece also notes debates on whether men should remove hats in elevators and recounts cafe fashion mishaps with an opera cloak and a highball warning. The narrative weaves social manners with pointed observations on etiquette and behavior.

Turner plans larger, detailed bird’s-eye view work

The narrator describes first making a color sketch and enlarging a previous bird’s-eye view by Mr. Bosworth, then coloring it, before deciding a larger, more detailed drawing was needed and applying to the director general for permission.

Laughing in the Sunlit Tree Top Children

A fragment from James Whitcomb Riley in January Century recalls three children, Bert Minnie-Helle and the speaker, laughing together at the sunlit trees. Wind moves the leaves as their giggles grow into hoarse fits. Their laughter continues despite no apparent humor, ending with rasping, joyful cries.
