A Limited train wreck left the motorman dead and several passengers injured after a collision caused by a believed slow watch. Investigators considered a theory that a slow motor man’s watch delayed crew actions and contributed to the disaster.
A collision between the regular limited No. 256 and the Martha private car near McCordsville injures several and kills Barton Frazier, a Muncie motorman, at 6:30 pm. Horace Wilcox of Lapel is lightly hurt. a 14-year-old Indianapolis boy aids the rescue. The Martha and limited stayed on track and were cleared for traffic soon after. Frazier, 25, left a widow in Muncie.
A newspaper man waiting for a car to Indianapolis witnessed the crash and said the wreck was fortunate not to kill more than Motorman Frasier. He rushed to help extricate the injured, noting the limited car crew seemed unaware of the Martha’s approach and that the track around the curve appeared clear.
