The Yellow Press Abroad and American Comparisons

In Bookman form, Harry Thurston Peck contrasts American journalism with continental papers notably French ones. He notes French gutter sheets’ vile innuendo against Casimir Perier and Felix Faure, England’s stricter libel laws yet coarse invective, and debates public life’s spillover into private spaces. He argues the US press will soon reflect the nation’s best nature.

New Jersey Mosquito Facts From State Entomologist

Prof John B Smith New Jersey state entomologist spoke to the New Jersey State Microscopical Society at Rutgers College on Monday night. He said New Jersey house mosquitoes do not bite humans but are harmless. the malarial mosquito bites are a separate species and malaria requires favorable conditions. He described culex pungens and culex sollicitans, their habitats, and migratory behavior, noting the Jersey mosquito is rare and linked to the pitcher plant. He claimed eradication is unlikely but control methods can reduce nuisance. Time of day and feeding habits contrast between species. He warned Holland’s marshes lack biting problems due to fish in waters. He emphasized the importance of addressing the problem rather than exterminate all mosquitoes.
